Henry VIII (English Henry VIII Tudor) - English king from 1509, from the Tudor dynasty, one of

the most outstanding representatives of English absolutism. He had a nickname - "Bluebeard".

Sign of the zodiac - Cancer.

Henry VIII Tudor was born on June 28, 1491 in Greenwich. In the management of the state, Henry VIII
relied on his favorites: Thomas Wolsey, Thomas Cromwell, Thomas Cranmer. In his reign in England was
carried out the Reformation, which the king regarded as a means to strengthen his autocracy and
replenish the treasury. The immediate reason for the reform of the English church was the refusal of the
Roman Pope Clement VII to approve the divorce of Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon and his marriage
to Anne Boleyn. After the break with the pope, the parliament in 1534 proclaimed the king the head of
the English church. The renewed church preserved the Catholic rites and was called the Anglican church.
Speaking against the break with the Pope, Chancellor Thomas More was accused of high treason and
executed in 1535.

Henry VIII in 1536 and 1539 spent secularization of the monastic lands, much of which passed into the
hands of the new nobility. Resistance, especially strong in the north of England ("Blessed pilgrimage"),
brutally suppressed by the royal troops. In connection with secularization, the process of expropriation
of peasant allotments and ruin of peasants intensified. To fight against vagabonds and beggars Henry
VIII issued "Bloody legislation against the expropriated." However, in the conditions of the beginning of
the agrarian revolution, the king tried to preserve the old feudal structure of land ownership, in
particular, carried out measures against fencing.

During the reign of Henry VIII, England waged a ruinous war with France and Scotland, which, coupled
with the enormous expenses of the royal court, led to the complete breakdown of public finances. He
had a daughter Elizabeth I - Queen of England since 1558. (VF Semenov)

Wives of Henry VIII

Henry VIII Tudor was married six times. He treated his wives as an expendable material, consistently
getting rid of the bored.

In order to marry Anne Boleyn, who flatly refused to become his mistress, the king, dragged into a
difficult and painfully long (divorce process with the first wife of Catherine of Aragon lasted about seven
years), quarreled with the Vatican and went to the English department church from Rome. But literally
three years later Henry VIII accused his wife, who gave birth to his daughter (and he dreamed so much
about the heir to the throne, he already had one daughter!), And sent him to treason in treason.

Then the king became very fond of Jane Seymour, the maid of honor Boleyn, and married her a week
after the execution of Anna. Jane died in childbirth on October 24, 1537 in Hampton Court from a
maternity fever. When the king was asked whom to save - mother or child, he replied: "Save the child. I
can get women as much as I want ":

with his personal page by Thomas Culpeper. The perpetrators were executed, and after that on February
13, 1542, the queen herself ascended the scaffold.
