Zerodha = Zero + Rodha(रोध / रुकावट) = No Barriers

Zerodha is a discount broking company that allows retail traders to make

investments and take positions in the stock market.

When we think about stock market, we immediately think of a complicated system

with a lot of barriers. Zerodha’s primary aim is to reduce and eliminate these barriers.

Zerodha’s competition are ShareKhan, Angel Broking, Groww, 5paisa, etc.

Why I Chose Nithin Kamath As The Topic
of My Presentation?

While Nithin Kamath has all the qualities of a disruptive
Entrepreneur, some of his qualities are fairly distinguished:

1. VISIONARY: Even in his teenage, Nithin was boldly confident about his career
and aim in life, something that the majority of young population in India is
missing.

2. SERVITUDE: Nithin’s primary goal is to keep stock trading as simple as

possible, which in my opinion is a great service.

3. HUMBLE: I visited his office in Bangalore and was awestruck by the modesty
of it.

4. In 2016, he was named in the Forbes 30 under 30 list.

How did Nithin Kamath start ? 3
● Nithin Kamath hails from an upper middle class family in Bangalore.

● Since his teenage, Nithin was curious about making money in stock trading and
tried his hands on it.

● By the age of 17, Nithin had already learnt the nooks and corners of the stock
market and was actively trading on all business days.

● Nithin was an average student if we judge him by his marksheet. But he

definitely is an avid learner.

● Nithin finished his college in 2001 and due to the 9/11 attack and the
subsequent fall of global markets, he lost all the money he made in a sudden
downtrend.

The 2001 crash did not stop Nithin Kamath from pursuing his dreams. He joined a
call center in Bangalore to make money. During the day he would trade in the stock
market and at night he would work at the call center.

Nithin’s portfolio was growing and was noticed by one of his family friends in 2004.
He started managing other people’s money and kept growing.

At this point Nithin was still trading as a sub-broker via Reliance Money. He found
that a RMoney had a lot of issues which slowed progress, which gave him the idea of
starting his own brokerage firm in 2010.

And that’s how Zerodha was born.

Fast forward from 2010, Zerodha entered the Unicorn Club in June 2020 with a
valuation of $1 Billion. Nithin Kamath is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zerodha.

Zerodha is currently the largest discount broker in India and handles approximately
15% of the total daily transactions in the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

Zerodha has a customer base of 5 Million which means 50 Lakh customers place
trading orders on its platform everyday.

Other than managing the daily workings of this ever growing company, Nithin Kamath
has taken a step that has really brought him forward as one of the emerging
entrepreneurs in India. This step is an important leap to connect education and stock
market.

Varsity is the bold step taken by Nithin Kamath that probably distinguishes him the
most.

Zerodha is a platform that is extremely user friendly and anybody that has even the
most basic knowledge of trading will know exactly how to place an order via Zerodha.

But Nithin did not just stop there and expect people to trade on his platform without
knowing the deep details of stock market first. Other companies like ShareKhan, just
wanted people to trust their platform and would never teach the deep secrets and
jargons of the stock market.

With his net worth reaching thousands of crores, Nithin Kamath may seem like a crony
capitalist. But his intention of educating the general public about stock market and
trading is definitely a quality all of us can relate to.

Afterall, all of us that have joined this Zoom meeting today are in pursuit of knowledge.
