Explanatio Before Strategy: Students will activate prior knowledge on Money and participate
n in a KWL (Know, Want to know, Learn) Chart. Students will complete the Know
portion of the KWL Chart. Teacher and students will have a class discussion what
they know about money.
During Strategy: Teacher will introduce vocabulary and have students make
flashcards (see vocabulary and definitions below). Students will complete the W
portion of the KWL Chart.

in Go Math 2nd Grade Textbook. Teacher and students will complete number 2 on
page 234 (See page below).

 What is the value of 3 pennies, 4 nickels and 2 dimes?
 What is the value of 2 $1 dollar bills, 5 nickels, 2 pennies?
 What is the value of 2 quarters, 4 dimes, and 3 nickels?
After Strategy: Students will complete the L portion of the KWL Chart. Students will
also complete page 233 on their own (see page below). Students may use money
manipulatives to help conjugate each
amount.

Explanatio Students will complete a group project and be evaluated based on the rubric.

Elaboratio Students will be assigned a group project titled “A Day at the Park.” This group
n project will a PowerPoint Presentation (see bullets below). Each group will have 5
students. The goal of this project is for students to develop a better understanding
of money, make real world connections, and collaborate with their peers.
 Each group will choose a store to buy their items from.
 Students will choose 5 items that we would need for a day at the park. The
prices must be researched online.
 Students must create a PowerPoint presentation with the titled slide having
a picture of their store.
 The next 5 slides should have a picture of the items they chose and their
prices. As they’re presenting, the audience will be writing down the prices
and calculating how much they spent. This will be done to ensure every
student is engaged during the presentation.
 The final slide will show the amount they spent which cannot exceed over
$25.00.
