The ability to control and regulate our energy levels, feelings, perceptions, and actions in ways
that are acceptable and generate positive outcomes such as well-being, caring relationships, and
learning is referred to as self-regulation.
From the study self-regulation, emotion and resilience by Paula thompsom and S. Victoria Jaque,
I learned that self-regulation is the ability to regulate one's own reactions. It's a combination of
behavioral and biological factors. The ability to control novel events is directly linked to optimal
self-regulation, which is affected by temperament, early developmental experiences, and
personality traits. Temperament is a stable characteristic that appears in early childhood; however,
the nature of the relationship with primary parental or caregiver figures has a direct impact on
attachment experiences. Regardless of disposition, secure attachment interactions foster strong
self-regulation capacities. When people are faced with hardship but show no signs of mental or
physical illness, they are said to be resilient. Understanding these factors helps people become
more conscious of their own needs and how to adapt training methods to suit them. In performing
artists, psychological skills can be used to balance positive and negative stressors, as well as to
encourage self-regulation and resilience.
Finally, I want to say that from every moments of our family relation, professional relation, daily
activities, social activities we can identify our emotions, behaviour, actions etc. which can be
negative. After learning about self-regulation I personally develop and improve those negative
actions into positive behaviour, concentrate on maintaining relationships and aware of my
emotions.
Self-regulation is an active process in which we monitor or control our disruptive moods and
manage it in a healthy way. It is our ongoing inner conversation that frees us from being prisoners
of our own emotions. For example - when a person becomes angry, he/she can lose control of
his/her own emotions and the ability to act appropriately.
1. Emotional self - control : People with strong emotional self - control manage to remain calm
even in stressful situati
2. Creating a list of circumstances that trigger negative emotions and write out the ways to deal
with those circumstances.
4. Admitting mistakes.
Finally I can say that self regulation is not an easy task. It is an endless process. If we give some
time to our self and act appropriately, we can turn a negative situation into a positive situation.
