 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The company “Brookes Pharma” we visited is one of the well-known Pharmaceutical Company
and has a significant position in medicine industry. Brookes pharma makes medicines regarding
all therapeutic segments including antiseptics, anesthesia, antibiotic, cardiology, CNS segments,
Dermatology, gastroenterology, NSAID, narcotics analgesic, pulmonology, anti-viral, potent
steroids, anti-diabetics. Brooke’s pharma, this company’s mission is to fulfill market
requirements. Company has 360 degree performance controlling system. Company provides
medical and life insurance from top level management till first line management. Brookes
pharma hit many foreign markets in 1998 it exported its products first to Srilanka and now
expanded Kenya, Vietnam, Tanzania, Philippines, Uganda, Myanmar and Afghanistan. Brooke’s
pharma operates in a pharmaceutical market. It is geographically located in Karachi Pakistan
korangi industrial area. Brookes pharma has no branches anywhere itself it has a main head
office in Karachi and a processing unit there. Abdul haseeb khan is the owner of company and he
is running a family business as his father has opened this company in 1998. Competitors of
Brooke’s pharma in medicinal industry are Abbott and Getz pharma. Brookes pharma is the leading
pharmaceutical company of Pakistan, Brookes not only fully realizes its importance but also fulfills its
responsibility towards the society through various Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. Brookes
actively participates in blood donation premises which succeeds with the collaboration of various NGOs
and Hospitals like Kashif Iqbal Thalassemia Center (KITC), Afzal Memorial Thalassemia Foundation
(AMTF) and The Indus Hospital etc.

 INTRODUCTION:
Brookes Pharma pvt. Limited started as a newly born company. The company started its
production with injectable products. Brookes Pharma is first pharmaceutical company of
Pakistan to introduce research novelties for treatment of liver related diseases. It is the first and
foremost company of Pakistan with 4 international certificates: IOS-9001, ISO-14001, ISO-
17025, and OHSAS-18001. In year 1996 licensed products “Hepa Merz” of Brookes Pharma
became brand leader in liver disease segment. In 2000. Pain and Inflammatory medicine Phlogin
got listed among top 100 brands of Pakistan. In 2001, company launched a whole range of
sensitive anesthesia products, in 2002, again it launched flagships products Pyodine that became
brand leader in antiseptic industry. Brookes pharma hit many foreign markets in 1998 it exported
its products to Sri lanka and now expanded to Kenya, Vietnam, Tanzania, Philippines, Uganda,
Myanmar and Afghanistan. Brooke’s pharma supports many charities and noble deeds. They
encourage civic improvements and better health and education. They provide fair share of profit
to the stakeholders and shareholders Brooke’s pharma refers to global recognition by
governments, organizations and, above all of this, by people as the greatest success that any
organization could have and it continuously strives for the realization of this ambition. This
vision of global recognition also implies a belief and confidence of Brookes on the potentials and
abilities of its people, whom it regards as the greatest and most important among the resources
that any organization possesses. It considers itself a family and it continuously strives for and
ensures its development and wellbeing. They have trained their employees not to leak any
confidential information about company. Their employees are contractually bounded not to leak
any secret about the company and any confidential information. Brooke’s pharmaceutical
company have 360’ performance system. If 25% of the objectives are not being met by the time
the company’s management start conducting counselling sessions to keep employees on track.
As being the pharmaceutical company they provides medical insurance and life insurance to all
of their employees from top level management to lower level management. .From CEO till
sweeper Brooke’s pharma provides full life and medical insurance. In case of on-duty death a
large sum of money is given to the employee’s family and in-case of any injury employee’s full
hospital needs are fulfilled financially. Brooke’s pharma also built a charitable school for the
needy under the name Brookes Education System (BES) and a dispensary name Brookes
Healthcare System (BHS) are providing education and healthcare facilities free of cost under the
name of BROOKES HEALTHCARE AND EDUCATION SYSTEM to the needy people of
North Karachi with excellent outputs as a decent profitable institution. In March 1996, the
commissioner of Karachi had initiated development of six roundabouts in Korangi Industrial
Area. Brookes immediately took the project to develop and renew one roundabout which is the
entrance to Korangi Industrial Area.

 CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER (CEO): The CEO of Brookes Pharma
is Salman Shad who look after business development and strategic sources activities and
also Dr.Arif Siddique who look after regulatory and marketing affairs.

 EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR ENGINEERING: Irshad sarwar is the


Executive Director Engineering of Brooke’s pharma. He is responsible for the strategic
plans of an organization.

 DIRECTOR HUMAN RESOURCES: Director Human Resource of


Brookes Pharma is Moghis Jalal. He supervise and provide guidance to management on
strategic plans, benefits, training, budget and labor relationship.

SUPERVISIOR of Brookes Pharma Company.

He is responsible for planning and directing the work of the first line manager

M.Riaz.

NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES AND DEPARTMENTS:

There are around 1000 of employees working in Brookes Pharma Company.

 DEPARTMENTS:
There are 5 parts of departments.

 Production (Manufacturing): Deal with stages of pharmaceutical product from


producing ingredients to the finished and even packaging.
 Quality: Area that monitors activities, processes and products of manufacturing to
ensure they completed standards expectation.
 Operation: Ensures the continuous functioning of the manufacturing plant its
equipment.
 Research and Development: Where staff are engaged in making improvement in
product and identifying new production technology.
 Others: It includes such as supply chain Logistics, Marketing, HR, and Finance.

 FIVE FORMS OF DEPARTMENTALIZATION AND THEIR


IMPLEMENTATION IN THE COMPANY
 The first departmentalization implemented by Brookes Pharma Company is functional
Departmentalization. Departmentalization by function organizes jobs by the functions to
be performed.
 The second departmentalization implemented by Brookes Pharma Company is product
Departmentalization.
Departmentalization by product organizes all functions needed to make pharmaceutical
industry.
 The third departmentalization implemented by Brookes Pharma Company is
geographical departmentalization. Departmentalization by geographical regions group
jobs on the basics of territory or geography.
 The fourth departmentalization applied by Brookes Pharma Company is customer
departmentalization. Departmentalization by customer groups job on the basic of type of
customer.
 The fifth departmentalization applied by Brookes Pharma Company is process
departmentalization.

 Departmentalization: Departmentizations refers to how the organizational structure
groups the company's functions, duties teams. These individual groups are referred to as
department.
 Chain Of Command: Chain of command helps reduce inefficiencies by having each
employee report to a manager instead of to different bosses.
 Span Of Control: Span of Control defines how many employees each manager is
responsible for within the company

 CENTRALIZATION AND DECENTRALIZATION:


Centralization in a business means that little or no input about the goals company set and
decentralized defines all level management to give input on big objectives.
Work Specialization: This work specialization helps that the company's particular workforce
needs are met, without any unimportant duplication of effort.
 FORMALIZATION:
Formalization diagnose the company procedure, rules and guidance as take on by management.

business activities stable and growing, our manager must consecutively adjust their strategies
Under political survey, our team always consider the political stability of religion, trade
regulations and many more related affairs. Under economic survey we discuss the types of
economic system in the country. The company operates, government intervention, infrastructure
quality, and skill level of workforce, labor, cost and related factors. Under social survey, we look
into the education, class structure, spirit and health, under technological survey, we discuss the
recent technological development, the technology impacts on cost, value chain structure and the
rate technology diffusion.

Q; WHAT HEALTH INSURANCE FACILITIES ARE PROVIDED BY THE
COMPANY TO THE EMPLOYEES?
As being the pharmaceutical company they provides medical insurance and life insurance to
all of their employees from top level management to lower level management .From CEO till

 CONTROLLING:
According to today’s concept controlling is a foreseeing action. And one of the managerial
function like planning, organizing and leading.it helps to check the errors and to do the
correction action with that standard goals are minimized and the stated goals of the organization
achieved
As in early concept of controlling only we use when errors are detected it means setting
standards measuring actual performance and corrective action
As controlling compares actual performance not compare the planned performance

 BROOKES PHARMA’S CONTROLLING SYSTEM:


1) WHAT CONTROLLING PROCESS ARE IN PLACE TO ENSURE THAT GOALS
ARE ACHIEVED?
In controlling system Brookes pharma have got the orically RP all the system are integrated all
the compliance system is monitoring all the compliance levels all employees performance is
recorded in monitoring system the KPI is also available who have eye on performance there is
the automatic system and all the compliance level rate it and there is also the signature in order to
do certain job, there are specific time line to do a job system automatically monitor. If someone
does not perform it rightly at that level. System automatically generates an email to tell them that
you are missing your lead time so, you have to complete it because other department job is
suffering because of this so, system the employee and its HOD (head of department) then email
will be copied and comes to HR and then HR calls the particular persons why this job is to be
done and system is prompting you but you are not doing it so HR investigate it that what is the
problem why the work has not done.
2) HOW EMPLOYEES PROGRESS IS MONITORED?
Employees progress is monitored in performance management system Brookes Company have
got 360 degree performance management system.

3) WHAT TYPE OF CONTROLS ARE IN PLACE INCLUDING FINANCIAL AND
INFORMATION?
Brookes pharma have got the IT policy they got excess to information employees that what are
the general information and what are the confidential information that employees not supposed
to share even during the employment or even after leaving the organization it’s a part of our
employment contract and somebody is joining us and he is contractually bound not to share any
confidentially information with anyone and during services they got email after the service.
4) OTHER CONTROLLING PROCEDURES OR MECHANISM IF ANY?
Brookes pharma have got the Internal operating procedures and also got the internal ordering
department which upgrades the function of the organization to see the exercising of authorities
according the prize giving to them nobody can be over exercising its prize so intraaudrat function
is also monitors the controlling function.
5) WHAT BENCHMARKING PRACTICES ARE BEING IMPLEMENTED?
In different areas Brookes pharma HUMAN RESOURCES department also conduct salary
service and complaint service.

track or not. To keep them on track they conduct counselling sessions.

well as in otherselves.He is as crucial as the root of the entire tree. He takes all people with him
as a strong person. He is gifted with unique capabilities.

 LEADERSHIP STYLE IN BROOKE’S PHARMA:
In Brookes pharma leader acts as the bridge. He sets strategies for the accomplishment of the
goals of the company. Motivation plays significant role in everyone's life. It can make every
human being vital and jovial. In Brooke’s pharma, leader motivates his employees. For instance
if someone is not performing his work or even does not achieve the minimum target which is of
at least 25 percent, then a leader console him. He takes counselling sessions with these sort of
employees. In it he asks questions and reasons from him.

Q: WHAT MOTIVATIONAL PRACTICES ARE APPLIED WITHIN THE


ORGANIZATION IN ORDER TO KEEP THE EMPLOYEES ANERGETIC AND
DEDICATED AT ALL TIMES?

 REWARDING EMPLOYEES:
For motivating them, he plans and give foreign trips to them. He told us that they have given
abroad trips to their junior managers. Recently they have given Dubai and Malaysia’s tickets to
them along with their families. They told us that it's the best thing that occurs in their
organization and not in anybody else’s. Other prefer marketing managers for these sort of trips
but they also give it to their head office staff too. It’s the unique reward for retaining in industry.
It’s one of their best quality that they arrange family trips, dinners, picnics, events and gathering
with their employees. They offer awards for the best performance. They also provide on the spot
rewards to those members of their hospital who gives unexpected and remarkable performances
on the spot. Sometimes it seems to happen that the capacity of employees reduces in the work

 LEADERSHIP STYLE:
They have Charismatic leadership style. According to them the role of a leader is to motivate,
guide, and coach their employee’s .Leader's role is to show his employees the bright future in
positive way. Make them feel that they can do each and every thing they want to achieve in their
lives. Their leader also unleased all the hidden potentials from their employees even that they do
not know. The best thing about them is that they do lots of care of their people, about their live
insurances, about their health, and their shelter too. Amazing work!

 LEADERS IN BROOKE’S PHARMA:


Leader has authorities and marvelous skills to influence other employees. The leader of Brooke’s
pharma not only focuses on himself but on others too. He takes himself and others for the
bitterness of the organizational. They not only give directions but also listen others. They give
respect to others too. They respect their opinions too. They are sensitive to them. Empathy, can
do and can change anything .They have charismatic in their organizations. Emotions are very
powerful because of them anything can be achieve easily. They can make things happen. So they
do care about their employees and customers a lot. They are very extroverted. They put their own
selves instead of others. They also look internal and external environment for acquiring and
accomplishing the goals of the company. They not only disclose the hidden potentials and talents
from their people but also help them out in other aspects like communication skills, personal
development and other things. They always try to bring positive change in all employees. They

 MOTIVATING EMPLOYEES:
For instance, if some employee has made something by using his own mind and due to some
reasons it does not become successful ;then if his boss will scold him and punish him , then there
are really very bright Chances that this person will scare. He will stop. He will not think beyond.
He will lose hope. He will become disappointed. After that he will stop thinking. He would never
take Interest in it again. Hence a good and smart, sagacious leader never want his people to stop
from thinking. From inventing new things. In Brookes pharma, there leader do care of these sort
of things. If 25% of the objectives are not being met by the time the company’s management
start conducting counselling sessions to keep employees on track.

 Recommendation:
They should do awareness sessions, so that millions of people would become protective from
diseases and nobody will face consequences .It is stated that avoiding is better than treatment.
The should improve their way of serving the customer.
They should make a research laboratory for inventing new medicines for the sake of humanity as
Brooke’s pharma has a pretty good share in market.
