India's population has grown significantly from 350 million in 1947 to over 1.21 billion in 2011. Population education aims to develop rational decision making about population issues by explaining cause and effect relationships. The objectives of population education programs are to enable students to understand that family size can be controlled, that population limitation facilitates higher quality of life, and that small families contribute to individual family welfare. Growing populations lead to problems like inadequate food, poverty, increased demand on education and facilities, and environmental issues like pollution. Population education programs should discuss small family benefits through community forums and schools.
