What do you call the first survey that the ship must go over? *

The first survey that the ship must go over is the INITIAL SURVEY. Initial Survey refers to the survey
carried out before the ship is put into service

How many surveys does the ship will go over in order to comply with the regulation? *

There are 7 survey in the video shown. These are Initial survey, annual survey, intermediate survey,
periodical survey, renewal survey, damage survey, and inwater or docking survey.

Why is it that we need to comply with those surveys? *

It is important that ships must comply with those surveys in order to ensure the safety and
seaworthiness of vessels. As maritime laws becoming more stringent with each passing year, sea-going
vessels have to go through a series of inspections in order to meet minimum requirements to continue
sailing.

What part of the lesson did you like the most? *

I like the most part of the lesson is the types of survey in ships

How does this lesson relate to your future profession? *

The lesson about the documents and certificates and the types of survey of ship will help me in the
future to know what certificates and documents of ship must be comply in order to meet the
requirements of standard of MARPOL and also Maritime law.

Why do you think we need to prepare and present ships documents to the authorities? *

We need to prepare and present ships document to the authorities in order to ensure that the vessel is
in good condition and complies by the standards puts forth by international maritime authorities.

What would happen if we were unable to present the required documents by the authorities? *

If the ship unable to present the required documents by the authorities or does not comply with the
MARPOL convention, the ship may be detained in port.

What possible penalties will the vessel have? *


The ship may be detained in port or the port State has various other options available at its disposal if a
ship does not have a certificate. It may expel the ship from port, it may refuse the entry of the ship into
port, it may also delay or terminate the operations of the ship. And also the owner may have to pay
costs associated with seizing and storing the vessel before it can be returned. The vessel may be
impounded

I think the ODME of the ship are operate by the marine engineers or the engine crew of the ship.

What is the purpose of Sewage Treatment Plant? *

The purpose of the sewage treatment plant is to treat the sewage and make it less harmful before
discharging it to the sea or ocean.

Who do you think operates sewage treatment plant and why? *

Marine engineers or the engine departments operates the sewage treatment plant on the ship. They are
the one who are in charge and have more knowledge about the machinery of the ship.

What do you think will happen if people do not protect the marine environment? *

if we do not protect the marine environment many marine life will destroy or damages especially the
habitat of the marine animals and corals.

What would be its impact to our community and livelihood? *

This will affect the livelihood of the fisherman because of contaminated water in the ocean, many fish
will die that will result to loss of job of the fisherman. This will also impact the health of the people and
the resources of people in the community.
