Citi’s dedication to achieving gender equality in the workplace is highly respectable. At the Women
in Investment Banking event hosted at Citi, I was impressed with what I learned of its corporate
social responsibilities and its strong Capital Markets Origination arm. At my university’s Careers Fair,
I had the chance to speak with an associate at Citi who greatly supported my pursuit of a career in
Markets. Realising my potential in working at Citi, I wish to express my interest in applying for a
summer analyst position within the Capital Markets Origination division.

My motivation for applying to Capital Markets is twofold. Firstly, I relish the prospect of mastering
both equity and debt financing. At Citi, CMO comprises of more than 20 groups providing liquidity to
clients; I will enjoy working on a unique mix of products, as I will gain all-rounded product knowledge
specific to Citi and bond with the most diverse group of people in a results-driven environment.
Secondly, CMO will allow me a front row seat in creating and witnessing transactions that foster
innovation. From bond origination and leveraged buyouts to collaborating with the Investment
Banking arm, my daily tasks will be highly varied; this learning process will encourage the origination
of new ideas and thoughtful detail within an interactive, fast-paced environment. Thus, CMO is the
only function where such expertise can be achieved. 

Citi is the best firm to develop my career and nurture my skills. Citi is exceptional at maintaining its
global presence. During her presentation at the Women in Investment Banking event, XX stressed
that Citi is the most global bank in the world, with more than half of its revenue generated outside of
the United States. This creates an early-mover advantage that enables Citi to strategically leverage
resources by allocating them across international markets- the best way to support clients.
Additionally, Citi pioneered tapping ECM for Private Equity capital and raised the two largest SPACs
ever in the US and Europe; it is a leader in developing alternative capital formats, notably with
sovereign wealth funds and hybrid executive formats. I believe that with Citi’s global outlook as well
as its integration of Sales and Relationship Management functions in all regions of the Investor Client
Group, I will most effectively learn the art of client relationship management and navigating
challenging economic conditions. 

My work experience and skills are my proudest assets, as I have an international profile that satisfies
the role of a CMO summer analyst. Through my internships in both offices in London and Hong Kong
at XXX Bank, I have become more culturally and socially aware of European and Asian business
ethics. Furthermore, my participation in two million-dollar deals enhanced my quantitative abilities
and encouraged me to partake in more challenging tasks in the future. Beyond the realms of finance,
I have gained an array of skills in research and marketing, which are essential for succeeding in
Capital Markets. I am able to work under pressure through my role in the Finance Society. As a
relationship manager, I led the committee in the planning and organisation of our flagship case study
competition for 100 participants. Working alongside Citi’s management, this internship will strongly
enhance my global business acumen and further my network.
