CHAPTER 2

REVIEW of LITERATURE
2.1 Meaning of the Literature Review
Going through previous study and books with the purpose of knowing the research
issue’s in detail and find out appropriate methodology is known as literature review.

‘’A literature review is a self-contained unit in a study which analyses critically

segment of published body of knowledge through summary, classification and
comparison of prior research study and theoretical articles.’’

-From conducting Research Literature Review: From Scientific Research Methods, by

Cardesco and Ganter, Sunrise Publication ,2067 BS, in page 30-31.

‘’ A literature review is a summary and analysis of current knowledge about a

particular topic or area of enquiry.’’

(Research Literature Review: From Business Research Methods, by MCWilliman.E, in

page 40-48.Asmita Publication, 2009 AD).

A Literature Review is “a systematic, explicit, and reproducible method for

identifying, evaluating, and synthesizing the existing body of completed and
recorded work produced by researchers, scholars, and practitioners.

(Research Literature Reviews: From Internet to Paper, by Arlene Fink, 2nd ed.

Sage Publications: Thousand Oaks, 2005 AD.)

2.2 Objectives of Literature Review

Literature review have different objectives. Some of them are listed below:

 To know the research conducted in the chosen field.

 To identify the gap.
 To develop theoretical framework.
 To develop research design.
 To update in current issues.
2.3 Review of Related Studies
Mr.Prof.(Dr) Subhasish Chatterjee had conducted a study on ‘’Employees
Satisfaction Level – A Study on Multispeciality Hospital in 2019 AD. The study had
following objectives.

 To measure the employees job satisfaction level.

 To study the employee’s perception towards organization.
 To identify the factors that motivates the employee

Its findings were given below.

 Perception towards hospital and with their work, it is found that most of the

employees are satisfied. In each and every criterion like job satisfaction, their

acquaintance on vision and mission, their confidence on leadership, and their

value in the organization and out of all, the most important is that the
majority of employee feels proud to work in the organization.

 In the second main criterion i.e. working environment, most of the

employees feel that their surrounding environment is safe to work because
they have responded positively in all decisive factors like working conditions
and physical environment.
 As far as relationship with supervisor is concerned, most of the employees
are satisfied with the management and with their supervisor, supervisor
takes input before taking any decisions, supervisors do give them adequate
support and also give authority to the employee to take decisions in their
domain ,majority of the employee admits that they get enough information’s
to upgrade their job well, they also get the enough recognition by
management. So far as initial and ongoing trainings are concerned, maximum
employees have given positive response, which means they get initial as well
ongoing training from the organization as per their requirement.
 On an average 60% to 70% employees are satisfied with pay benefits

provided by the hospital and 15% - 20% are dissatisfied and rests are neutral
in response. In, overall benefits package 47% are satisfied, 11% are very satisfied,
employees are also happy with vacation and sick leave, on sick leave policy, 59% &
11.40% are satisfied & highly satisfied but surprisingly on medical benefits, 25% are
dissatisfied i.e. ¼ of the employee are dissatisfied with medical benefit provided to
them but 47% & 15% are satisfied & highly satisfied with it. 21% are neutral.

 Employee satisfaction level is satisfactory in this organization as median

are inclining towards >3 in all criteria. Most significant matter has been
observed by the researcher that all null hypotheses drawn are rejected
and demonstrated positive responses from the greater part of
employees.

Mrs. Sarita Sharma had conducted a study on ‘’Employees Job Satisfaction’’ In ‘’Om

Samaj Hospital Private Limited’’in 2017 AD. The study had the following objectives.

programs in an organization.

 It is clearly found that 65% of respondents are satisfied with the workload.
 It is clear that 82% of the respondents are highly satisfied with the leadership

Style.

 It is found that 96% of the respondents are highly satisfied with the

communication flow.

 It is clear that 90% of the respondents are satisfied with good salary package.
 It is found that 98% of the respondents are highly satisfied with the
incentives facilities.
Mr. Ramesh Chokhanihad conducted a study on ‘’A Project Report on Employee

Satisfaction in Norvic Hospital in Thapathali - Nepal’’ in 2074 BS. The study had the

following objectives.

CHAPTER 3

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

3.1) Meaning of Research

Research methodology is the systematic and theoretical analysis of the

methods applied to a field study. It allows readers to critically evaluate a study’s
overall validity and reliability.

According to S Rajasekar, (2006), “It is a science of studying how research is

to be carried out. Essentially, the procedures by which researchers go about their
work of describing, explaining and predicting phenomena are called research
methodology. It is also defined as the study of methods by which knowledge is
gained.”

According to Mouley (1994),”Research Methodology is the process of

arriving at dependable solution to the problem through the planned and systematic
collection, analysis and interpretation of data”.

3.2) Research Design

Research Design is a framework of research which helps to collection,

measurement and analysis of data.

There are various types of Research Design. They are as follows:

 Exploratory Research Design

 Descriptive Research Design
 Correlation Research Design
 Causal Comparative Research Design
 Experimental Research Design
 Quasi-Experimental Research Design

Out of all these research designs, this project report uses descriptive research
design, which is used to study the subject of research in detail and to explain the
facts and features related to the research problem.

3.3) Nature and Sources of Data

The information or facts collected through record, observation and

measurement is known as nature of data. The nature of data depends upon the
nature of subject matter. Generally data are of two types. They are primary and
secondary.

 Primary Data
Data that has been collecting by the researcher himself/herself as per the
objective of the project is known as primary data. It means someone
collected the data from the original source i.e. first hand.
 Secondary data
A researcher uses the data developed by others in the past for their own
purpose is known as secondary data. In this research, the secondary data are
used.

The analysis of the data is based on the nature of primary data. Under the study,
primary data are collected from questionnaire.

The sources of data are the sources from where researchers obtain the data.
The sources of data depend upon the nature of data. Primary data have primary
sources and secondary data have secondary sources. Generally sources of data are
of two types.

 Primary sources
 Secondary sources

Out of these two sources, the analysis of study is based on primary source which are
obtained from questionnaire.
3.4) Decision of Sample

Sample refers to the representation portion of the population, selecting among

the entire population.

There are two types sampling methods.

 Probability Sampling Methods

 Sample random sampling
 Systematic sampling
 Stratified sampling cluster sampling
 Non-probability Sampling Methods
 Judgmental sampling
 Quota sampling
 Convenience sampling
 Self selecting sampling
 Snowball sampling

This report is based on judgmental sampling which is one of the types of non-
probability sampling. It is a method where sample are selected by the researcher
based on his /her interest and convience.

3.5) Data Collection Procedure

Data collection refers to searching the required or necessary data for the
project work. Data collection procedure is the steps that are followed to gather the
required data. There are two procedures to collect the data. They are:

 Primary Data Collection Procedure

Primary data collection is a process of collecting the data, through
primary sources i.e. questionnaire, observation, interview etc.
 Secondary Data Collection Procedure
Secondary data collection procedure is a process of collecting data
through secondary sources i.e. journals, articles, internet etc.

In this project work, the researcher has taken the data through primary data
collection procedure i.e. questionnaire.

3.6) Data Processing

Data processing is the act of refining and manipulating the items of data that
produce meaningful information. Data processing includes sorting, grouping and
tabulating.

Sorting refers to the separating the needed data from many data.

Grouping is the process of accumulating similar item into various classes.

Tabulating refers to the process of arranging data in a systematic manner into rows
and columns.

In this project work, researcher has included grouping and tabulating for data
processing.

3.7) Data Analytical Tool

Data analytical tools are the means that a researcher uses for analysis and
presenting the data. Analytical tools may be financial, statistical or mathematical.
But the design used for this project is mathematical i.e. percentage (%).

3.8) Data Interpretation Techniques

There are different data interpretation techniques that are used in any
research. But only three techniques are used in this report.

In the first paragraph, only the given data are explained.

In second paragraph, the researcher has mentioned central understanding of

the explanation.
In last paragraph, the researcher has explained whether the result is good for
organization or not.
