Brainstorming and rationale:

Part 2.

I think the beam need one layer and two crossbeams and several trusses to make up. Two
crossbeams should stick with the layer and the crossbeams need in the same side of the
layer. We put the crossbeams in the separate sides of the layer. I also think we need some
truss in the mid of the crossbeams on the layer. Our beam can handle the weight on the top
of the layer; it also can hold the weight on the flank. The two crossbeams can support the
force from the top of layer and the trusses can support the force form the flank.

Reflection:

In my point of view, our beam was successful. The deflection of 2.5kg is 4.5, which is the
lowest deflection in our tutorial class. We have used one layer and some trussed to create
our beam. There are also two mean crossbeams though our beam separately in the same
side, so it can make our beam more strength. During the experiment, I truly recognised that
how forces are working and how to put trusses which have the different deflection. The gaps
in our experiment are that we need build more trusses in our beam, because our beam
cannot hold the force in the flank. I also think we need use the double layer, because it is
more strength.

In the experiment, we have shared much information for each team members about the
beam and how it works. We have discuses the design carefully. We also cut the wood
carefully to make sure the right size. We try to use less wood build most strength beam.
When each team members agree the ideas, we start to create our beam. It takes about 5-
10mins about the design of beam. We have considered option as much as possible.
