At 0945 hrs, MT Lowestoft in a DR position 10 miles south of Hook Head is steering 137° C
at a speed of 14.7 knots. A light N’ly breeze is blowing in the area and tidal stream is slack.
The following bearings of Coningberg Light Vessel are observed:
1. Find the distance off from the Light Vessel at 1020 hrs

MT Lowestoft has just dropped off the Port Talbot Pilot and is on a course of 182° (G) (Gyro
error 2° H) at a speed of 5 knots. An Easterly wind is causing 3° leeway. Tidal stream is as
per Diamond G (HW Avonmouth at 1215 hrs (springs)). The following observations are
made:
At 1415 hrs, Scarweather Light Vessel is bearing E’ly (G) and at 1515 hrs bearing NE’ly (G).
Master has instructed OOW to call him when 3 miles from nearest land. Predict the time
when Master is to be called.

USE DEVIATION CARD 2
MT Lowestoft has just dropped off the Port Talbot Pilot and is at a distance of 3’ from
Scarweather Light Vessel at 0730 hrs. The following courses are steered:
Find the Vessel position at 0845 hrs and the distance off from Bull Point at 0900 hrs.

MT Lowestoft is in the vicinity of Stanley Bank (off Lundy Island), steering 300° (C) at a
speed of 10 knots.
Wind was SW’ly causing 2° leeway and Set and Rate of current was estimated to be as
follows:
At 1945, Caldey Island was observed at range of 5’ on starboard bow. Find the Vessel’s
position at 1945.
