Holiday Homework
Dear Parents and Students
Greetings from DIS!
1. We believe that holidays should be a perfect amalgamation between
relaxation and strengthening of concepts. With the purpose to brush up
the learned concepts and reinforce them, we have come up with Holiday
Assignments on a weekly basis. Every week, Holiday Homework will be
given. The submission date for English and Geography is Monday, 10 May,
2021, for Maths is Monday, 24 May, 2021. The link for submission will be
given by the subject teachers. The Homework for this week is given below-
Week 1
Language 1
A. English Language and Literature
1. Read the story The Midnight Visitor from the Supplementary Reader Footprints
without Feet and answer the questions that follow-
1.1 Answer the following with reference to context-
(a) Ausable was, for one thing, fat. Very fat. And then there was his accent.
Though he spoke French and German passably, he had never altogether lost
the American accent he had brought to Paris from Boston twenty years ago.
“You are disappointed,” Ausable said wheezily over his. shoulder.
(a) Who is Ausable ? To whome is he talking ?
(b) How is Ausable different from others of his class ?
(c) Which word in the above passage means the same as “the tone of
speaking some particular language”?
(d) Name the languages mentioned in the passage.
(b) Max was slender, a little less than tall, with features that suggested slightly
the crafty, pointed countenance of a fox. There was about him aside from the
gun – nothing especially menacing.
“The report,” he murmured. “The report that is being brought to you tonight
concerning some new missiles. I thought I would take it from you. It will be
safer in my hands than in yours.”
(a) Who was Max ?
(b) Why had he come to Ausable’s room ? What he did thereafter ?
(c) Which word in the passage means the same as ‘cunning’ ?
(d) Which words describe Max’s physique ?
1.2 Answer the questions in about 100-120 words-
(a) What fake story was made by Ausable in the hotel room? What made it a convincing
story?
(b) Give a character sketch of Ausable.
(c) Why did Fowler become white faced at the end of the story?

NOTE: Do the worksheet in your school register. Work should be done
neatly.
