CAPSTONE FINAL REFLECTION

June 13,2021 Christi-Ann Khuu

Capstone is the most important biggest project I’ve ever done. I remember in grade eight,
I had to do a mini capstone and I was told that I will have to do this when I enter highschool, I
didn’t really think much of it. I just thought that my teacher was just saying stuff and doing a
capstone isn’t going to happen… Turns out it did! I am quite glad I was able to work on this
capstone this year because capstone made me reach one of my goals, which was to be a streamer
as a hobby!

While completing this streaming experiment project, I learned that it is important to be

entertaining in your video/live streams. Now a person with a little anxiety like me, it takes a lot
of courage to talk during a livestream whether you show your face or not. It’s the feeling of
knowing that people from all around the world could be watching you right now and judging
you, that is what makes me nervous, trying to keep a conversation with yourself is hard, because
when you’re nervous, everything goes blank! Fortunately I gained a little more confidence while
streaming, mostly when I was playing games with my friends and I was streaming it, I talked a
lot more and had fun. My project is relevant to me because it was one of my dreams to achieve
as a hobby, I wanted to be a streamer as a hobby like a side job, luckily I was able to achieve it
after by doing it for capstone.I was able to demonstrate the six core competencies during this
capstone project. For personal awareness & responsibilities, I was able to self-motivate myself,
set goals for my project, and understand my decisions and actions before starting a stream. Social
Responsibility, everytime I go online I always make sure that I have to be careful about what I
say while streaming, and make sure to have positive viewers. Critical thinking, I can understand
the purpose of my project and I can understand what viewers want to see when they watch live
streamers. Creative thinking, I chose different games to play during my streams, this is
demonstrating novelty and value. Communication is the core competence that I believe that I
demonstrated the most, I talked to my viewers and I listened to what they had to say. Personal &
cultural identity, my personal values and choices, I know what’s important to me and my
viewers’ entertainment was important to me. I have demonstrated the six core competencies.

My capstone project had quite a huge impact on me, because of my project, I was able to
push myself out of my boundaries. I have a little social anxiety, so it was hard for me to come up
with conversations on my own while talking to a live audience. I was so nervous I was shaking
while playing, my viewers told me not to be so nervous and it helped me a little, now I can
stream without being so nervous! I am most proud of reaching the goal that I set for myself,
because if I didn’t set a goal the whole period of doing my project, I would be so confused, I
wouldn’t understand what I had achieved the whole time. The difficulty was setting the audio
and mic up, sometimes the audio was too hard to hear and it would take me hours to get it to
work… How I got it all to work, I bought a new mic, changed the audio settings in both the game
and the software that I was using.

What is one thing that I would change about my project? Although I believe there is
nothing for me to change about my project, I would like to fix up my avatar a little bit more
because I was told that the hair was bothering my friends… So I would change the look of my
avatar. An advice I would give to the future students who are going to be completing capstone
projects, is, “Make sure you’re prepared to do a big project, a project that makes a huge impact
on you or the community.”. Fofamit really helped me get everything started from the beginning.
She was the most helpful, I learned what to use and how to use the programs that were needed.
The least useful was probably Argama Witch because I only watched the video to learn how to
make cat ears. It wasn't much info about streaming, more of creating. I wish I watched a lot more
of streamers before actually approaching the streamers life. I think it would help if I watched
how streamers talk to themselves or how they entertain their viewers, I could try to learn from
them, because I believed that confidence in starting a conversation was what I was really lacking
for my streams when I was playing by myself. I did watch HeyShadyLady to learn what I should
do or say while streaming, however the video only helped me a little. Overall I really enjoyed my
time working on the experimental capstone project! Streaming is truly fun when you’re
confident.
