Artist Statement

When I first started this project and it was time to pick a genre, I decided that it would be fun

to do an entertainment genre. I wanted to write about my top five favorite movies. The reason I

chose my favorite movies to write about is because watching good movies is something I love to

do, whether it's with my friends, family, or even by myself. I think watching movies is so

comforting and enjoyable. There are even many proven articles and facts that explain how

movies are really good for us. The reason I chose to write about my favorite movies in specific

and not just the topic of movies is because I think someone's favorite movies can tell you a lot

about someone in things they enjoy and about their personality, just like how someone's favorite

songs or foods can also describe them. I also think being given movie suggestions is sometimes

fun when you're given the opportunity to watch someone's favorite movies and see why they like

it.

There are so many ways and things to describe how a movie can make you feel, between the

acting and the music, watching a movie that leaves a permanent memory in your mind is always

a good feeling. The purpose of this project is to tell people about my favorite movies and to also

inform people on how watching movies is actually really good for you. A lot of people put

shame towards watching movies by saying they are boring or you are just being lazy, but I think
if you find the right movie, then you can really love it. The audience I would like this

information to be directed towards are people around their teenage years and older. I think we

can all be stressed about work or sports or even just family things, but watching your favorite

movie, or even a new movie can really help you relax and feel better. It can help you engage

yourself in something positive and funny, or even sad, just something to help us have a good

time and take our mind off of what's stressing us out.

Going into this project, I was going to write about my favorite movies as an article, though

after feedback, I decided I would make social media posts on Instagram. In my writing I initially

started and ended with my appeal wanting to be ethos. I think movies can be so emotionally

connected to someone's life and their emotions, whether the movie relates to someone or not, I

think there is always a way a movie can connect with someone. Not only using ethos for that

reason, but after researching more about the benefits of movies, I realized there is a very strong

connection with movies and our development with feelings and emotions. The genre I chose was

a series of social media posts. I chose this genre because I thought it would be very easy for my

target audience to access my social media since we all usually now use instagram and social

media.

When I started to make the project come together,I had to first decide what type of genre I

was going to make my project. I thought first about doing an article, but after thinking about it

for a little more I realized that a social media post would be better. Then after I decided what I

was going to do, I started my annotated bibliography. Since I was going to focus on what my

favorite movies are, I decided to add information about how movies are beneficial to us and our

health. Once I finished that, I decided for my social media posts, I would choose instagram as my

social media platform. I started my first post off with information about the positive effects of
watching movies, followed by singular posts of my favorite movies and a description of why

they are my favorite.

When this project first came to mind, my ideas for what I was going to do were definitely

different from what I did. I changed my genre and the platform I was going to do my project on.

My main issue was really deciding what platform or genre I was going to do my project on. I was

going to do an article but I was a little unsure of how I would do that so, I looked at a few

examples that were posted on the project assignment and thought that maybe an instagram would

be better. I asked the teacher if that idea was better and we both agreed that it would be better to

inform the audience more on what I was talking about. After finishing and looking at the

outcome of the project, I am decently satisfied with the outcome. I stayed with the same appeal

that I started with in most of my projects. I think if I was given the opportunity of more time,

money, and expertise, I would have maybe tried to make the instagram page a little more

detailed. I think being able to add some clips from the different movies into the posts would be

good or maybe some fun interactive things.

Something that I think turned out good and that I liked is just the overall posts on the social

media and also how all the movies looked on the page. I feel like this project overall, was not too

easy or not too hard. Creating the physical Instagram account and posting on it was easy but I

think having to carefully construct and choose what type of genre you would present your project

on and also choose your wording to have it connect to the audience that would be viewing your

project made it a little more difficult. Doing this college project I feel very good about it. I feel

like I can use some of this information in the future with how to connect to my audience and how

to make a good social media to get people interested in what I am talking about.
