1. Explain what makes the corporation a very important
business ownership structure;
2. Explain the various connotation implied by the term
“production management”;
3. Discuss the objectives of Production Management.

E. Introduction and Engagement


1. The firm as we know it today is an organization of people
and machines engaged in designing, producing, marketing,
financing, and transporting large volumes of goods to satisfy
the demand of consumers. The various kinds of goods can
be classified as either consumer or producer goods. The
former are used or consumed by individuals or households,
while the latter, such as machine tools, are used by
producers to manufacture other goods. Of course, some
firms produce services and other firms may produce both
goods and services.

1. Please view or download the PowerPoint Presentation from
our Production Management class in our Google Classroom
(Chapter 3 – Production Management and Organization).
2. Please take down notes and answer the following questions:
a. What is a corporation?
b. What makes the corporation a very important business
ownership structure?
c. What is management? What does it consist of?
d. Enumerate the responsibilities of the production
manager.
e. State the objectives of production management. Relate
the responsibilities of a production manager to these
objectives.
f. What in your opinion is the most important resource of
production employed by production managers?

a. Make a comparatives study of the organization for
production of:
(i) Two firms in different industries
(ii) Two firms in the same industry with different
product lines
(iii) Two firms in the same industry with similar product
lines

Note the similarities and differences in the size, shape, and


functional and authority relationship of the various
elements of the organizations. Account for such similarities
and differences.

1. Answer the Quiz 3 from our Production Management class in
Google Classroom.
2. Online assessment during the video classes through
recitation
