14 UNDER GETS THE GUSTO!
The last group, playing as a fivesome and hurrying to beat the
Atlanta, Ga 30309
darkness due to some slow play from one or more of the other
teams, finished at 18 under as a fivesome, adjusted down to 14
under after having to drop one player’s scores. Getting the
freebie brewsky were Tom Kisgen, Mike Gaddis, David
Danzig, and Don Nichols (with Brooks Cowles the unlucky
odd man out.) Providing the beverage of choice to the victors
was the self picked team of Jim Williamson, Doug Gooding,
Henry Sawyer, and Ron Majors who fell short with a score of
7 under.

BATELAAN WINS LOW GROSS!

BUIST AND SELLNER DUEL IT OUT FOR
Leaders In The TOP HONORS!
Clubhouse: Eight handicapper Richard Batelaan took honorary Low
Low Gross: Bernhardt: 34 Gross honors with a 38, seemingly unchallenged by the Tyber-
ATAG Record: Reese: 33 less and Reese-less single digiters in the day’s group. The
high side was more competitive and also more respectable than
Low Net: Danzig -7 usual as Bill Buist and Craig Sellner battled it out in a fierce
(ATAG Record) competition that ended up all square with scores of 49 each.
Buist was easily on his way to sole possession of the top spot
Birdie Leader: Tyber: 15 but a relentless Sellner managed to come through at the end
ATAG Record: Tyber: 19
with a triple bogey on # 9 to earn a tie for the top dog spot.

Best Team Score: -16 TIME ATAG RECORD!
Eaton, Gilmore, Thornhill, Rookie David Danzig, carrying a 27 handicap, and playing in
Nichols only his fifth ATAG match, followed his prior rounds in the 50’s with a
(Ties ATAG Record first set in surprising 43, for a net 7 under to blow away the field and set
2005 by Martin, Tyber, Healy,
and draw partner Kisgen)
an all time ATAG record not to mention pocketing the year’s highest
purse of 21 bucks. Danzig, who was only 1 over after the first
five holes (two of which were “double pops”) ended up with his
reportedly career best round. He was immediately summoned
to appear before the ATAG Handicap Committee at 7:00 am the
following day.

BATELAAN AND ARNOLD HAVE

SHOTS OF THE DAY!
Richard Batelaan and Marty Arnold earned co-honors for
“Shot Of The Day”. Batelaan brought the #1 handicap hole
number 6 to its knees with a 165 yard approach shot that landed
within three feet of the pin for an easy birdie putt, and Arnold
worked some magic himself on hole # 5 to the amazement of his
teammates by escaping from danger by threading the needle
between two trees some 6 inches apart on his way to a birdie on the
par five hole.

BIRDS A CHIRPING!
Birdies were plentiful on the friendly front nine as the Birdie
Club added eight tweeters to its coiffures thanks to the handiwork
of Marty Arnold, Richard Batelaan, Mike Gaddis, Scotty
Greene, Geoff Fitzpatrick, Richard Gilmore, Kevin McGlynn,
and Ben Cass.

ATAG OTHER TIDBITS

Ansley Tuesday Afternoon
Golf Tour ● It was a loud and raucous crowd on the porch due to the
Ansley Golf Club large size of the group which led to some rather boisterous
1912 conversations at different tables. Amidst the din, a married
196 Montgomery Ferry Dr
couple, obviously not realizing that the Men’s Grill porch was off
Atlanta, Ga 30309 limits to women , was sitting at one of the ATAG tables as the
teams began to finish in succession. Upon finishing his round, third
team member Scotty Greene took it upon himself to unknowingly
exert great influence in getting the couple to quickly vacate the
premises, and it is doubtful that we will see them again any
time soon.

● Former ATAG regulars Jimmy Matthew and Geoff

Fitzpatrick made a rare appearance to participate in the day’s
match, and Rick Eaton and Lester Mitts made cameo
appearances on the porch after the match, with Mitts even staying on
until evening’s end with an apparent gate pass.

● The ATAG Rules Committee has ruled that last week’s Low
Net winner Frank Corrigan would still be entitled to his winnings
despite not staying around for the conclusion of the match. After
much deliberation, the Committee decided that Corrigan’s win was
a “lifetime event” in that the chances of his pulling off such a
feat again in his lifetime were pretty much nil. Therefore,
Corrigan may pick up his stash, or rather prize money, at
the ATAG Will Call Counter upon presentation of his ATAG Tour
card and a photo ID.

● And, speaking of winnings, this week’s Low Net winner

David Danzig was seen ebulliently waving the twenty one dollar
bills in his hand as he was leaving, mumbling something about
going to a Cheetah Club, whatever that is.

● On the day prior to the match, the Commissioner took some

good natured ribbing via a flurry of e-mails from fellow
ATAGers commenting on the Commissioner’s career round
of 77 on the first day of the Anderson Cup
Tournament. (These comments are on file and may be drawn
upon from time to time by the Commissioner when it is to his
advantage to do so.)

That’s it for this week. See you next week when we take on the
stubborn back nine. The first tee time will be around 4:30 pm
for those who can make it. THERE ARE ONLY 3 MORE
MATCHES IN THE 2006 SEASON, and like last year, a final
18 hole round has been proposed—either Tuesday,
October 24, or another day that same week which is the
last week of daylight savings time. Majority will rule.
