SODA!! When we hear this word the first thing that comes to our mind is something that
accompanies an alcoholic beverage. Though in the army lingo it means SERVING/SENIOR OFFICER’S
DAUGHTER’S ASSOCIATION.
My father is an army officer , in that too a infantary officer. My days I my father’s unit (21 maratha li)
aree unforgettable a small group of people placed amidst & scenic natural beauty, where everyone
knows you ouring to your father’s position. You are well taken care of and overprotected as ‘SAAB KI
BETI’
There were at a time 5-6 people working in my house. I never had to bother about polishing my
shoes, ironing my uniform and for that matter not ever, what clothes needed to go to the dhobi or clean
the cupboard. If my favourite trouser got missing all I had to do was yell BHAIYA (the common
terminology used for an orderly) and it would suddenly re-appear out of nowhere. Most of the key
things one need to learn in life such as how to ride a bicycle or a two/four wheeler(one of the MT driver
tought me that) were tought tyo me by our bhiya. Later on when I visited my father’s present unit,
incidently, I was addressed either as MADAM/SAAB accompanied by a salute.
Parties as we all know are the regular feature of every unit. As a officer ward I would get the first
preference for softdrinks, snacks and food. As an officer now being the junior most. I have to ensure
now that all the senior officers and their families are well looked after first and then bothered to take a
drink myself. In the unit it was the responsibility of the new young officer posted into make silly
conversation with us kids and even buy birthday gifts for us. Now I find myself doing exactly the same
thing.
I was under the misconception that being a faunji was glamorous. But now that I have stepped
into the organization I have realized that it is a job involving great risks and responsibilities. I niow know
how difficult it can be tro set an example and to command. The girl whom everyone knew as SAAB KI
BETI has to work extrahard to make herself known in this vast organization.
“go ho gay saab” from one uniqueman uses to come. This unique sermonwriting the oursing spells from
