ZX-5/6 SERIES - TROUBLESHOOTING PROCESS FOR MONITOR SCREEN BLACKOUT

OUTLINE
This Service Bulletin provides information on the troubleshooting process for monitor screen
blackout that can occur when the machine is turned on. If the monitor screen is completely black,
follow the instructions given in this Service Bulletin.

Carry out modifications by following “2-1. Work flow.”

* Thoroughly read the safety section in the service manual before starting the work to ensure safe operation.
Welding work, if any, should only be done by qualified welders.
* After replacing the main hydraulic equipment or engine or after post-assembling the aforementioned as an
option, be sure to change and register the post-assembled device serial number on Global e-Service (MMR,
HR, MME, G-Claim).

1 General description
The monitor can sometimes display a totally black screen when the machine is turned on as stated below.
Provided here is the modification to be carried out when the monitor screen is totally black.
If this happens, follow the work procedure.
The following explains the situation of the screen when this happens.

2-2 Troubleshooting process for the blackout

[1] Turn off the machine.

[2] After turning off the machine, wait about one minute.

[3] After about sixty seconds, turn the machine back on.

[4] If the problem seems to have been fixed after you turned the machine on, you have reached
the end of the troubleshooting process for the monitor screen blackout.
If the screen continues to be black even after you’ve turned the machine on,
repeat steps [1] to [3].
※If the problem persists even after repeating the process twice, replace the monitor controller.

2-3 Verification process of state of monitor controller

[1] Turn the machine on and verify that the monitor screen is completely black.
1. Turn on the machine.

2. Verify the monitor screen.

3. If the monitor screen is completely black,


trouble shoot the controller as outlined in
[2] below.

※ The screen to the right shows a blacked


out monitor screen.

[2] On MPDr, carry out a troubleshooting to verify the faulty state of the monitor
controller and main controller.

1. Start MPDr and select the machine type to be connected.

※ Hydraulic excavator (6 ton -under 40 ton) “ZX-6” is selected as an


example for this process.

2. After selecting the machine type to be connected, click “Connect.”

3. Click “Troubleshooting.”

4. Click “Start.”

5. Verify that the following fault phenomenon has occurred. Verify the cause of the monitor screen blackout
phenomenon and take countermeasures.
① The following error code is shown on the main controller column.
・11009-2: (MC) Monitor Controller Communication Error 1
・11010-2: (MC) Monitor Controller Communication Error 2
② The troubleshooting of the monitor controller displays “No communication”.

Verify that the monitor controller harness is not disconnected. If there are no problems with the
harness, it means that fault lies with the monitor controller. Replace the monitor controller.

Verify the monitor harness. If there are no problems with the harness, it means that fault lies with
the monitor. Replace the monitor.

The troubleshooting of the monitor controller displays


“No communication.

Verify that the following error code is shown on the main controller column.
・“11009-2 (MC) Monitor Controller Communication Error 1”
・“11010-2 (MC) Monitor Controller Communication Error 2”
