Title:
To make a pattern of garment by using draping Technique.
Objective:
➢ To obtain perfect fit and harmony between the fabric & design of the garment.
➢ To provide skills of draping, to understand the human body proportion & to get the required
shape and fit of the garment.
Abstract:
Draping is done on a dummy and after pattern making, I cut it using scissor. Dress form is an
excellent tool to have in a designer's studio. It is mainly used to drape the fabric to make new and
innovative designed garments. It always helps in checking the proper fitting of the garment. In
present day, draping techniques are taught in fashion design schools, academics and colleges.
Thus, students can easily understand the art of draping and will be able to create more
fashionable garments.
Introduction:
Draping is the process of transforming a clothing design into a three-dimensional form. Designers
love the art of draping because their designs come to life as they manipulate the fabric on the dress
form. Draping enables the designer to make better choices when considering the suitability of a
particular fabric to its design. Fashion draping is the oldest method used since the 18th century.
Currently, it is considered to be an important part in fashion designing. Fashion Draping is the
process of positioning and pinning fabric on a standard size dress form to develop the structure of
a garment design. Many types and sizes of dress forms for women, men and children are made to
fulfill the requirement. Draped pattern making, is the link between design and production of a
specified dress. Designers sketch that turns into a three-dimensional functional garment. Draping
process is a way of interpreting the design regardless of the style, size, and shape. The fabric is
manipulated, molded, and shaped through
the skillful use of the draper/designer's
hand, until the design is replicated in three-
dimensional form.
Experimental procedure:
Draping at first started with a designer,
taking a normal basic dress, and putting it
on a dressmaker’s model. The next
technique is, the designer takes pieces of
fabric, pins and required material before
starting draping. Pin them to the garment
where the drape is preferred, which will
provide the finished garment shape. While
pining the fabric on that model, it should be kept in mind that the fabric has no crease in it. Mark
all major points and seams to create guidelines for your garment which will keep your draping
even. Using a fabric pencil or chalk, draw on the seams and other sewing instructions, like darts.
Taking your fabric off your form, use your markings to trace a pattern on your pattern paper and
include the space of at least 1 inch for your seams and other technical allowances. Unpin the fabric
from dummy/Model and grab the scissor. Cut the fabric very carefully according to the sketched
pattern.
Results:
It was observed that by using technique of pattern making by draping method using hands given
us our required pattern. Proper measurements were taken which is the major aspect in this method.
Discussion:
The fabric used in draping must be similar to the fabric that will be used on the final garment:
Using a completely different fabric won't give the correct vision of how the final fabric will fit
on the body when it's shaped and darted. Designers/drapers must have the knowledge to
distinguish among different fabrics which will enable them to select the most appropriate fabric
for flow and line of each design. Draping normally requires little bit of extra time but, with
continuous practice this will become easier a
Conclusion:
Draping technique to recognize the human anatomy, body structure contributes to prepare
appropriate clothes, models, and proofs without seeing the whole person is determined to
contribute to create custom-made clothing. The dummy model is made based on the actual
dummy model form.
Title:
To study and analyze the 3D body measurement scanners using image scanning.
Objective:
➢ To study the process of body measurement using 3D technology
➢ To analyze the technique that is developed for the digitization of the human body.
Abstract:
Complications with garment sizing and poor fit inconvenience many consumers who become
dissatisfied with such provision on the high street. It is evident that human measurement and
classification of the human body based on size and shape are precedent to accurate clothing fit
and therefore fundamental to production and consumption. With advancement in technology,
automated 3D body scanners designed to capture the shape and size of a human body in seconds
and further produce its true-to-scale 3D body model have been developed. 3D body scanning
technology is being viewed as a significant bridge between craftsmanship and computer-aided
design technologies. There is therefore a vital need to authenticate procedures and establish
systems for practice.
Introduction:
A 3D model is created by digitizing the surface of the individual. The scanner generates number
of 3D images of the consumer. Each image is a partial 3D model exhibiting a single view of the
consumer’s structure. To create a 360-degree image of the consumer number of images are taken
and all images are aligned in a proper format and one final 3D image is created. Once the image
is created, the measurement extraction software installed in the computer takes hundreds of
individual measurements from head to toe. This data is then forwarded to the manufacturer who
uses his creativeness and creates the garment in a very short time with the exact measurements
that matches the consumer.
Experimental procedure:
3D body scanners, as the name suggests, are scanners that can digitally capture the entire human
body, or just individual parts such as
arms, legs, ears, or the head, by
taking thousands of snapshots of a
person’s body. Very first step before
entering in the 3D booth is to
measure body weight and height. The
basic steps before measuring the
body size are:
• Undress yourself.
• Keep on tight fitting
undergarments.
• Take off your glasses.
• Take off your watch and other jewelry.
• If you have long hairs, please putt your hair up in a bun.
• Close the Curtains.
When I get ready, I place my feet on footprints and lift your chin straight. Hold the handles &
press the button (on right side) when ready. Press the button for one time and leave it. Remains
stable for 10 seconds. Do not move while scanning. This scanner will take measurements for 3
times & will display the best measurements on screen. These measurements were displayed
using TC² software. By using Combination of Modeling and Image Processing, 2D images are
obtained but 3D information is extracted from it.
Results:
Weight = 76kg
Height = 172.5cm

3D Body Measurements
Conclusion:
3D scanning technology has the potential to inculcate positive changes in the apparel industry. It
is an effective strategy for maximizing customer satisfaction. But ultimate success of 3D Body
Scanning technology depends on the consumers acceptance and application of the process. The
customer’s acceptance depends on the fit and finish of the final product, the total cost involved,
his awareness of the technology, and accessibility of these applications.
