Philippine Culture and Tourism Geography

Barraca, Godofredo Jr. Cinco BSTM 1-1D

Activity 1: The Island of Luzon is endowed with numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sites. To be able to protect
the sites should we impose a limit to the number of visitors and require them to pay a registration fee? Include
its impact on the pillars of sustainability (economic, environment and socio-cultural)
The sites should require a registration fee to accept tourists. The funds collected can be used to improve
the lives of the community members where the heritage is located. Once it starts to generate income the locals
will understand the value of the site, thus, they will protect it. The fees can support the area while giving
opportunities like opening new tourism ventures to further their local economy. With new ventures, they can learn
or extend their skills to cater to the tourists that can help with their employment and income. Their newfound
skills could motivate the locals to sell their goods like cultural arts and crafts and provide services. This would
create a market that would produce income that would increase the local tax revenues. The benefit of protecting
the site and requiring the tourists to pay would make the government and the people to commit to the
conservation of the natural area and its species. Furthermore, the high level of conservation could raise the
profile of the site as a destination and could be known not just locally but internationally, this would give
opportunities to access new markets and foreign exchange.
Protection and conservation of their means understanding its issues and needs. That is why it is a must
for both residents and tourists to undergo education that would deepen their understanding towards the sites
that they think have little or no value. This would make them take pride of their cultural heritage and resources.
The locals could create attractions in the protected areas that could support their ventures. Their ventures could
also take part in making crafts and arts that could help conserve the culture whilst making profit from it. Through
interacting with local people, the tourists could learn the language the language and improve their social
understanding of the culture presented.
Activity 2: A new international airport will be built in the next years to come. If you will be given the opportunity
to give your inputs on how the airport should look like or should have what would it be and why?
The airport to be made must be considered as one of the bests in the world, it must have what it takes to
be a proper one to its travelers. It must have the basic amenities to take care of the travelers. First, to be able to
tend to every passenger during their stay at the terminal, airports should be at a size where it could cater to the
people. That is why the management should know how much people would be going in and out of the airport.
Also, passengers should not be densely packed in one area. Next, the airport should also have a very pleasing
and inviting exterior to ease the nervousness of the first-time flyers and give a good start to tourists who wants
to see more of the beautiful country. After that, all passengers should also have access to a comfortable seat
and a place where they could lie down to rest comfortably, this should be spread throughout the airport. The
airport could also have its own hotel to accommodate those who want to have their privacy. Last but not the least
are the plugs. Universal plugs should be accessible everywhere, looking for it must not give the traveler a hard
time. They should be in the most open area where they could easily locate by those in need. The airport being
large enough to take care of all passengers without crowding, delays, and long lines, a great exterior, a place
where people could rest comfortably, and plugs are the most basic amenities that every airport should have.

The future airport should also have its own leisure and recreation, dining, and shopping area. Waiting in
airports take hours and for others even days. So, it would not be far to think about places where they could spend
their time. Gym, spa, pool, gaming center, and casinos are just some of the parts of the airports where they could
enjoy during their wait for their flight. Libraries and office areas are great too. For those who wants to continue
their work and be productive, places where they could have their quiet time is beneficial. A wide selection of
restaurants and dining areas where they could have a choice that could fit their taste palette is a must for the
dear passengers. The menu available should be as diverse as the people and the airport must emphasize the
food from which country it is situated to promote the local cuisine. Shopping must not be only for those who are
well off, it should be for everyone. The boutiques and stores should also cover people from different financial
statuses. The shopping area could also have a place for the local goods to encourage tourists to support the
local craftsmen.

For a full-blown, perfect experience, other than the amenities, the hospitality of the staff, seamless flow,
and informative directions are what would make the airport adventure of the passenger complete. It is a basic
knowledge that the staffs should be warm and friendly to people. The staffs should have the ability to
accommodate children, senior citizens, and people with disabilities. The staffs should attend trainings for people
with special needs, for example, in terms of deaf and hard of hearing people there is sign language to equip the
staffs. Specific employees could roam the airport to assist people, for example, if a traveler is need of a
wheelchair, the employee can fetch it for them. There should also be information desks disseminated for the
passengers to inquire to. For tourists, there could be stalls to represent different regions or provinces where they
could ask about their destinations. Elevators, escalators, walkalators, and large direction signs should be
anywhere to ease the trip of the passenger. Trash bins to avoid litter with the help of cleaning service are what
would keep the surroundings clean.

The basic amenities of the airport, the provision of areas where passengers could spend their time, and
the training of the staffs to accommodate the travelers at their best potential are some of the recommendations
that would elevate their total airport experience. Inclusion of foreign travelers as well as people with special
needs and improvement of staffs’ skills to tend to passengers are what would make this airport the finest.
