ACTIVITY 2 –

John Story

John worked at a fast food restaurant. The floor often got very greasy, and had
to be washed a lot. As John walked across the wet floor, carrying a basket of
french fries, he slipped. He tried to keep the fries from falling, so he couldn’t
break his fall with his hands. He fell on his tailbone and was seriously injured.
He is now permanently disabled and has trouble walking.

1. Why do you think this happened?


 Because an adequate risk analysis was not carried out to determinate
how often the cleaning order should be carried out, as well as a manual
or instructions for handling this type of substances to avoid spills.

2. What could have prevented this person from getting hurt?


 It could have been avoided by carrying out a cleaning routine or a deep
cleaning, using degreasers or other cleaning products. In addition, the
surface must be always dry and Jhon must adequate footwear for his
work, as well as applying non-slip tape.

 Instructions in case of spills must be taken into account and fulfilled, and
also have signs, anti-slip tapes and a dry and clean surface.
