As a party planner, you plan something special that will keep every party that you organized
unique and original. For the next party, you plan to give a cake contains 30 cherries shaped
like a sphere with a diameter of 1cm as a souvenir. You are designing a cake in the shape of a
tetrahedron 3x + 3y + 3z = 18. How much mixture of the cake should be prepared if 550
guests will attend the party?
[Hint: First, consider the case where the cherry is submerged then the case where it is totally
submerged]
Methodology
(Linear form)
3x + 3y + 3z = 18
3x 3y 3z

z=– x – y +6
z = (6 – x – y)
6–x–y=0 x2 – x1
or m = 0--6
∴ y=6–x 6-0
m = -1
(0,6) ; 6 = - x (0) + c , c = 6
To get the mixture of the cake which contains 30 cherries shaped like sphere with diameter of
1cm, the volume of the whole tetrahedron (cake) should be subtracted with the volume of
sphere (cherries).
Noted that since there are 30 cherries for shaped like sphere, so the volume of sphere needs to
be multiplied with 30.
Then, the [volume of tetrahedron – 30 (volume of sphere)] is calculated for 550 guests.
