Arjuna Temple
 Dieng Plateau or also known Dieng viewed from geographical side is located at 2
district. Where the western region entrance Wonosobo and East enterance Banjarnegara.
Dieng named has filosofi that is from Di which mean Plateau and Hyang which mean
ancestors or gods. At the beginning of the Century Bc, there was a processing of migration
of Kalinga People to various parts of Asia, one of them to the island of Java. This migration
was due to the Ashoka royal attrack located north of the Kalingga Kingdom, but according to
a French researcher, this migration is ordinary migration to order expand, culture, etc. From
this processing migration affects the existing cultivation tradition up to now. Arjuna temple is
one of the tourist object. Arjuna temple located in Dieng Kulon, Batur, Banjarnegara. The
complexes in Dieng compound are Arjuna temple complex, Bima temple, Setyaki temple,
Dwarawati temple, and Gatutkaca temple.Travel to this area taken with car or public
transportation which is taking 45 minutes from Wonosobo, 1 hour from Banjarnegara, and 3
hours from Yogyakarta. The price ticket for domestic visitor is Rp 15.000, whereas for
foreign visitors is Rp 30.000. This price only be valid for regular day while for weekend the
price slightly up.
Arjuna temple was built around VII-VIII century AD on Wangsa Sanjaya period
which is profess Shiva religion. This temple have a measurement of 6×6 meters and facing
toward to the west. Temple roofs tiered with small towers on every corner because this
temple architecture style developed from Indian (Dravida) influence to local style. Arjuna
temple body wall decorated by 3 niches on 3 sides that now has been empty. The top of the
niches of each niche is decorated with variety of headless chin, and is connected to a pair of
makara by the frame of the niche. The west door of the temple with its ornamental head
decoration, and also connected by the door frame and the staircase to a pair of makara that is
ornamented by the parrot in its gaping mouth. The roof of the temple consists of three layers
(bhumi), the size is increasingly smaller and ends by a peak that may be a fruit of keben
(ratna). This possibility is proposed after seeing the decoration on the corners of the roof
layer shaped replica of the temple. Certainty of form can’t be filed, because the roof has been
damaged. The top of the temple is not stupika (dagoba), because the Arjuna and Dieng
temples are entirely Shiva.
 Park in this area very limited because this area very narrow. And for toilets is very
dirty because really less maintenance. But, the road to get into this area is very easy and not
damaged. Cold weather becomes the main attraction for Dieng. So that, fruits and vegetables
can grow well. Typical fruit of Dieng is carica which is can processed into sweetmeat.
Potatoes can also be processed into potato chips with various flavor. Moreover, the beautiful
scenery is also the main attraction because it is located in the highlands. Because Dieng
tourism is worldwide, many homestays are established. Dieng also be place for Dieng Culture
Festival specifically Arjuna temple complex. You must visit Dieng because of its beauty,
culture, and its trademark.
