• The National Economic Council (NEC) meets here on June 6, 2021 (today)
to approve about Rs2.135 trillion worth of next year`s consolidated

7. Boko Haram leader Shekau is dead, claims rival group

• The Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) militant group said in an
audio recording heard on Sunday that Abubakar Shekau, leader of rival
Nigerian militant group Boko Haram, was dead.
• Shekau died around May 18 after detonating an explosive device when he
was pursued by ISWAP fighters following a battle, a person purporting to be
ISWAP leader Abu Musab al Barnawi said on the audio recording.
• `Abubakar Shekau, God has judged him by sending him to heaven,` he
can be heard saying.

8. Two drones shot down above Iraqi base housing US troops


• The Iraqi army said on Sunday two drones were destroyed above a base
housing US troops, one month after the same base was targeted by an
armed drone.
• The US military`s C-RAM defence system was activated to shoot down the
drones above the Ain al-Assad base, located in Iraq`s western desert, the
Iraqi military said.
• Several hours earlier a rocket was shot down above Baghdad airport,
`without causing casualties or damage,` said Colonel Wayne Marotto,
spokesman for the US-led military coalition in Iraq.
