1. Construct a plain scale of RF = 1 /500 and indicate 66 m on it.

Solution.
If the total length of the scale is selected as 20 cm, it represents a total
length of 500 × 20 = 10000 cm = 100 m. Hence, draw a line of 20 cm and
divide it into 10 equal parts. Hence, each part corresponds to 10 m on the
ground.
First part on extreme left is subdivided into 10 parts, each subdivision
representing 1 m on the field. Then they are numbered as 1 to 10 from
right to left as shown in Fig. 11.6. If a distance on the ground is between
60 and 70 m, it is picked up with a divider by placing one leg on 60 m
marking and the other leg on subdivision in the first part. Thus,
field distance is easily converted to map distance.

IS1491 - 1959 recommend requirements of metric plane skills design add as

A,B,C,D,E and F as shown in table. So, these skills are commonly available in
the market they are made of either varnished cardboard or of plastic
materials such skills are commonly used by surveyors or architects.
2. On a survey map the distance between two places 1 km apart is 5
cm. construct the scale to read4.6 km
Hema hamlai tha xa, R.F = 𝟓𝒄𝒎
=
𝟏∗𝟏𝟎𝟎𝟎∗𝟏𝟎𝟎𝒄𝒎
𝟏
𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟎𝟎

If X is the drawing size, then

Required X = 5 x 1000 x 100 x 1/2000 = 25cm
Note: If 4.6km itself were to be taken x = 23cm. To get 1 km divisions
this length has to be divided into 4.6 parts which is difficult.
Therefore, nearest round figure 5km is considered. When this length
is divided into 5 equal parts each part will be 1 km
Draw a line of length 25 cm.
Divide this 25cm length into five equal parts. Now each part is 1 km.
Divide the first part into 10 equal division.
Each division is 0.1 kilometer.
Mark on the scale required distance is 4.6 kilometers.

3. On a plan, al line of 22cm long represent of distance of 440 meters.

Draw a diagonal skill for the plan to read up to a single meter. Measure
and mark oh distance of 187 meter on the scale.
Soln: RF = Drawing size of an object (in same units) its actual Size.
RF = 22 cm / 440 x 100 cm = 1 / 2000
If x is the drawing size required then,
x = 200 x 100 x 1/2000 = 10 cm
➢ When a length of 10 cm representing 200 m is divided into 5
equal parts, each part represents 40m.
➢ The first part is sub divided into 4 equal divisions, so each
division is 10cm.
➢ On the diagonal portion 10 divisions are taken to get 1m.
➢ Mark on it 187 m.

4. Construct or diagonal scale of R.F = 1/6250 to read up to 1

kilometer and to read meters on it so a length of 653 meter on it.
Soln;
R.F = 1/6250
Maximum length =1000m (1km = 1000m) (100 x 100)
No. of parts of scale (n) = 10 parts (each up 100 meters)
Length of Scale = RF x ML
= (1/6250)x1x1000x100cm (1m=100cm)
=16cm.
The length of the line that is drawn on the drawing sheet is 16cm.
