1. What is your evaluation of the MGI team’s process? What were the “root causes” of the
team’s process problems?

The MGI team’s processes were completely inefficient and disaster because it was not
functional, and the team was divided. The inefficiency of the process only created conflicts
and from the beginning no clear goal and vision so that the team could work to get that job
done. The team members were not agreeing on one vision for the team and the product.
While Sasha was keen to market the product and an entertainment purpose and Dana
wanted that it is a best product to market it as a educational piece. Additionally, there was
no group leader and management also did not give value to the members.

2. What were the strengths of the MGI team? How would you have evaluated the MGI team
on paper, that is, before their first meeting?

MGI has a very sound background, and it is known for the business strategist, creative,
composers and the influencers which are MBA students. The team look like very sound and
effective when it comes to knowledge. The all-team members were self-driven who can
achieve the goal for the organization. Roman explained that they are the best group who
can work things out. The management was thinking that the group can get over little
things, but the case was not this.

3. Were the differences among team members a liability or an asset? Explain. The
differences among the team members were more a liability than an asset.

Igor and Roman had creative mind while Sasha were a business hat on. The all had different
goals and visions for the company while Dana and Sasha did little work but argue a lot. They
both were very stubborn because they had different ideas for the project so they could not
consider each other’s ideas for a while. There was a by default friction in them and Sasha
believed that he has experience, so he knows better, and he discredited the MBA students.

4. What could Henry have done earlier to avoid the team’s problems? Henry should have
implemented structure to the team meetings.
Whenever there was team meeting, there were no assigned roles for the members while
the time was limited, and they did not have set of goals. In the meetings, there must order
and structure and the mediator to console the argument. If Henry had created the agenda
for the meeting and the mentioned meeting points should be followed in the meetings
because there were clashes and the meetings can time consuming. Similarly, Henry should
have also assigned the role of mediator to Roman to keep the meetings on the point and he
should also clearly know the roles of the MBA students. Dana and Henry were thinking that
they were consultants, but they were being treated as interns.

5. At the end of the case, what actions could Henry have taken to increase the team’s
effectiveness?

In order be effective and be prepared for the business competition, Henry can take some
actions. Like, Henry needs to create structure and harmony within the group, and he should
be assigning the roles, goals, and the points that need to be followed in the coming week.
Since the clear goals and roles, the team members can help to avoid the conflict and
conduct more effective meetings. He can also instruct to use better ways of communication
which can help to avoid the arguments and conflicts. In addition, he can take the role of
mediator to make sure that the everyone’s opinion is heard.
