STUDENTS OF DEPARTMENT OF MICROBIOLOGY MSC FIRST YEAR

Introduction :

 Street sweepers play an important role in maintaining the health and

hygiene in the cities.

 This job exposes street sweepers to a variety of risk factors such as dust,
aerosols, volatile organic matter and different type of pathogenic as well as
non-pathogenic micro-organisms , which make them susceptible to certain
occupational diseases.

 Due to continuous exposture to the hazardious microbial as well as viral

factors are also being generated which shows adverse effect on the street
sweepers health and body

 Unknowingly This type of exposure is not only limited to a single individual

but it is carried by them to there family and there surrounding community
and area.

 This type of areas and community can also become an unknown point of
outbreak of many type of dangerous infections .
 Due to continuous exposure for prolonged period of time these workers
are prone to suffer from different occupation related diseases.

 Occupational respiratory diseases are one of the main morbidities to which

street sweepers are exposed according to (Sabde and Zodpe 2008; Nayera et
al., 2015) studies.

 Due to there occupation they daily get exposed to various fungus , bacteria
, and viruses which they carry along with them whole day and they can
spread this factors widely.

 By studying the microflora we will get an idea about the risk factors arisen
by there work .

 And hence we will get to know about the health realted issues the street
sweepers are facing in our area i.e satara municipal corporation and
throught our work we can find out better solutions for there problems.

 This type of issues are widely neglected in our society but we should know
that this people are important key factors of our society and lifes .
Objectives:
 To find out which type of microflora they are exposed to everyday due to
there occupation

 Does this occupation has some health related effect on there body as well
as there family .

 Any type of fungal and bacterial infections are commonly found in there
family repeatedly.

 Any different type of pathogenic strain on there body flora which is

unknown till now

 Any different microbial species infecting them continuously and does it has
become there heredity in there family which may be genetic or non genetic

 To spread awareness among this street sweepers to be conscious about

there health
 To rise an social issue

 To find out home as well as natural remedies which can truly effect on the
microflora found on there body and study its working mechanism.

Material And Methodology:

Study population:
 Study population was selected from Satara municipal corporation
area comprising of 30 street sweepers
 25-65 years working in this job for more than 10 years with daily
exposure of several hours.
 Ten healthy non exposed subjects in the same age group were selected as
a control group.
 The selection conditions for these control workers includes
Non-smoker and with no history of any disease further it was
conditioned that none of the control subject had respiratory
symptoms such as cough and cold.

Data Collection Criteria:

The below data chart will also collect Name ,Age, Health Conditions, Address,
contact details along with some personal data.

1 Male (50%) total selected 15 Male FOR STUDY

population
2 Female(50%) total selected 15 Female FOR STUDY
population
3 Male (Healthy ) 5 Male FOR CONTROL
4 Female ( Healthy ) 5 Female FOR CONTROL

 We will collect Swabs of hands of the workers early in the morning near
satara municipal office before they go for there work.

 Another slot of the swabs will be collected exactly after there daily given
work has been finished ( there hands should be unwashed).
 We will continue to collect slots of there hands for better results after
several days of intervals by following the same methodology .

 We are going make proper survey report to keep our data accurate and
also to avoid false results

 The swabs which we are goint to collect are from the sweepers hands front
and back area.
 This swabs we will store in distilled water till we reach in our libroatory
area to avoid contamination and false result
 We will streak those swabs on mac as well as nutrient agar plates.
 Same procedure will be followed for the swabs of normal people performing
day to day activities .
 After proper incubation we will observe the various colonies and there
related diseases.
 Through this social servey project we will get to know about various
microbial infections caused to the road sweeper and there community .
 We may also get to detect various diseases and health problems realated to
road sweepers families which may have becomed heridatory in there family
due to there occupation.
 We will use some natural remedies which has been used from thousands of
year in ayurvedics in our country.
 But throught this research work we will got to know about confirmed
results of this remedies on the microflora on the body microflora of street
sweepers.
 Throught this various microbial makeups we will get to study.

Outcomes:
 If we detect any new suspectful strain of micro-organisms we will carry out
16 s Rrna technique to study its microbial makeup.
 We can suggest this workers some home remedies that can boost there
immunity and decreased there infection risks in a cheap way rather than
coastly methods.
 We can spread awareness and knowledge among them about there health
and health related issues
 We can also suggest some health sanitization methods and precautions so
that they can help them self and there family.
