Homework #1
1. Explain How is the OB in your job? (7 POINTS)

Organizational behavior within a company is very important since it is directly related to

how workers behave individually and in groups in the same work environment, which is
very important mainly to stimulate interpersonal relationships and thus be prepared to
face situations that they could generate conflict and predict the behavior of individuals
and groups in the face of these conflicts.

The company I worked for two months called Business Advisor Network Buadnet S.A.
It is a medium-sized company which is dedicated to providing tax, financial and
administrative advice, during my stay in this company I was able to learn a lot about its
values and organizational behavior I would define this company as a society where
respect predominates, as in all societies respect It is essential but in Buadnet it was
different mainly because in this company two brothers worked in the same area, one was
the supervisor and the other was an assistant and I always observed how they treated each
other with great respect, they kept the phrase that outside the company we can make jokes
and any occurrence but within it we are workers who treat each other with the respect
they deserve, obviously from time to time they made a little joke but it did not go beyond
that. From the first day inside Buadnet they instilled in me that respect is something
normal and that it often goes unnoticed but it should never stop being practiced.

The second value that can be analyzed within Buadnet's organizational behavior was
Honesty and Ethics, this is something simple since it is a company that provides financial,
tax and administrative advice, everything must be clear and concise, mainly in the way
As each worker acted, over time I realized that the typical accounting errors did not exist
in this company, everything was worked with the greatest possible accuracy, I remember
once a colleague lost her phone within her work area , and he went to the systems
department to check the cameras but no one believed that a colleague had stolen him, and
they told the colleague to check well because we all trusted our colleagues and their
ethical values, but she insisted that the cameras be checked and indeed his cell phone was
in his wallet, so the supervisor got a little angry since it was not ethically possible that the
cell phone had been stolen by someone colleague and kindly asked him to be more
attentive and cautious so that a similar situation would not happen again, which for me
speaks very much about the values that are instilled in Buadnet.

Another of the main values that the Buadnet company has is teamwork, it was incredible
to observe how colleagues from other areas such as systems generously helped those in
the accounting area without accounting being their specialty, another very important
value within behavior Buadnet's organizational structure was the responsibility of the
company for its workers, that is, the company was very concerned about the well-being
of its workers, rewarding them with Bonuses and other incentives that helped develop
their capabilities. I really enjoyed my stay at Buadnet.

To conclude, I think that every company should instill in its workers about their
organizational behaviors and what their values are from the beginning so that people are
related in a structured way with their work and can coordinate perfectly with their other
colleagues, I think that organizational behavior is a basic requirement to be able to be
successful in running a business.

2. Answer the following questions: (3 POINTS)

What Is the Focus of OB?

Organizational behavior focuses on three major áreas which are:

 Individual behavior: Based predominantly on contributions from psychologists, this

area includes such topics as attitudes, personality, perception, learning, and
motivation. I think that individual behavior is very important in organizations as this
ensures the proper functioning of a company. Due to the individual differences of the
people in the same company, it is very important to learn to manage these behaviors
to achieve better results.
 Group Behavior: It includes norms, roles, team building, leadership, and conflict. I
believe that all groups in a company have established norms; that is, with certain
patterns of behavior shared by its members, these norms tell members what they
should or should not do in certain circumstances and from an individual's point of
view, they indicate what is expected of them in certain circumstances.
 Organizational aspects: It includes structure, culture, and human resource policies
and practices. I think that organization is considered one of the pillars of Business
Administration. It is a fundamental part in the planning and development of any
project.

What Are the Goals of Organizational Behavior?

The goals of OB are to explain, predict, and influence behavior, achieving these goals
allows managers to have a deeper understanding of human behavior at work using a
common language to unify the organization.

For managers it is necessary to explain why employees behave in the way they do.
Managers would be very frustrated if they could only talk about the behavior of their
employees, but could not understand or explain the reasons for their actions. Managers
must also predict how employees will respond to various actions and decision, that is,
predict which employees will be dedicated and productive. Finally, managers must be a
role model in order to influence the behavior of their employees.

Therefore with all these goals, the administrator will be able to investigate the impact of
individuals, groups and structures on behavior within organizations and analyze how
these variables influence the development of human talent and functioning in general.

What employee behaviors are we specifically concerned with explaining,

predicting, and influencing?

Six important ones have been identified: employee productivity, absenteeism, turnover,
organizational citizenship behavior (OCB), job satisfaction, and workplace misbehavior.
 Employee productivity: Is a performance measure of both work efficiency and
effectiveness.
 Absenteeism: Is the failure to show up for work.
 Turnover: is the voluntary and involuntary permanent withdrawal from an
organization
 Organizational citizenship behavior: Is discretionary behavior that’s not part of an
employee’s formal job requirements, but which promotes the effective functioning of
the organization
 Job satisfaction: Refers to an employee’s general attitude toward his or her job
 Workplace misbehavior: Is any intentional employee behavior that is potentially
harmful to the organization or individuals within the organization
