Aim:-
 To revise the concept of interference of light waves in general and thin-film
interference in particular.
 To set up and observe Newton’s rings.
 To determine the wavelength of the given source.

2. Formula Used:

λ = (D2m+p- D2m)/4pR

where D(m + p) is the diameter of the (m+p)th dark ring and Dm is the diameter of the
mth dark ring.

3. Observation table:

 One main scale division = 1/20 cm


 Number of divisions on Vernier scale = 50
 L.C. = One main scale division/ Number of divisions on Vernier = 0.001

4. Calculation:

Mean value of D2m+p - D2m = 0.0484446 cm2

Wavelength of light (λ) = (D2m+p - D2m)/4pR  605 nm

5. Result:

The wavelength of light from given source is found to be  605 nm
