DIAGNOSIS
Current Sample:
PROBLEM: Microscopic examination shows heavy
amounts of friction polymers (excess load or stress
on lubricant) and moderate amounts of black and
red A oxides (indicative of poor lubrication
conditions), corrosives (oil additive depletion) and
dirt contamination. Also present were light amounts
of rubbing wear. Note: oxides and polymers persist.

ACTION: Inspection for sources of excess load or

speed may be warranted. Monitor unit for high
operating temperatures, water in oil, poor boundary
lubricatin conditions and/or other poor lubrication
conditions. Monitor unit for corrosion and
contamination ingress. Recommend filtering or
drain and flush system to remove debris and
replenish additives, and resample at a reduced
interval after corrective action is taken to further
rmonitor and check wear and contamination trends.
Wear overview/entry/50x Oxides/entry/500x The rig needs to open a CM work order.
