Introduction

Education is an important medium of acquiring essential knowledge and skills. It is more than
just learning from books. It is an effort of the older generation to transfer their life wisdom to
their offspring. Our world is constantly changing and developing so it is very important to teach
and bring up intelligent people who could understand the problems of modern society and solve
them in a proper way. Modern education is liberal, open, and exoteric. It is based on the
humanism, freedom, equality, democracy, and human rights. The content of education keeps
pace with the needs of modern society and is a mirror of its goals, values, and priorities It is able
to reduce poverty in a number of ways. But we have to remember that there is a great need for
the growth of the vocational education so that every person could pursue a fulfilling career that
ensures a satisfied life.

The differences in education systems and structures of countries have led to different economic
growth rates and even impacted in the social-cultural structure. To maintain the pillars of growth
in a particular country, there is need to benchmark the education systems among different
countries (Lindley, J., 2009). International rankings in higher education compare institutes all
over the world with respect to their performance in research and teaching. Meanwhile, rankings
are a central and often criticized instrument for developing images of institutes, while their initial
idea to provide information to students to choose the best educational institutes are still alive.

Asian societies have generally been more focused on the needs of the group or the "collective"
than Western ones, which mean that conformity is important in Asian life. It's also important to
avoid criticism, ridicule and rejection and to win approval and acceptance. In contrast, someone
from a Western individualistic society such as the U.S., Canada or Australia, will generally be
more likely to risk criticism or rejection when the goal is important enough. This means that
students in Asian classrooms will speak less because they tend to fear voicing views that the
teacher or fellow students will find unacceptable.

In general terms, Western education emphasizes on understanding (meaningful learning), whilst

Eastern education emphasizes on memorizing (rote learning). In-class discussions in the West
have been driven by ongoing communication between the students and the teacher, there is a
constant flow of dialogue, that stimulates both problem solving and communication skills. On the
other hand, in the East, the full responsibility of what the students can learn and to what extent
they understand the material depends on the teacher as there is no a dialogue between the two
sides and quite often the questions asked in class are answered by the teacher himself. Of course,
this is a highly speculated model as in today educational environment in the Balkans many
schools and universities are changing their teaching methods, adopting more modern once and
trying to “think out of the box” when it comes down to classroom activities. Nevertheless, in
general, the West and the East can represent two sides of a coin, completely different from one
another.

Flaws in the Education System of Pakistan:

The education system of Pakistan is based on the theoretical education instead of practical
education.

The syllabus that is followed by the educational institutes is outdated (old syllabus).

Teaching quality of the teacher is also poor and most of the time professional teachers are not
available.

Different educational institutes are following different curriculum/syllabus by their own choices
that show lack of unity among them.

Limited field are offered those on based on specific programs that limits the educational growth
of the students.

There is no career counseling for students that makes them difficult to choose the specific field to
study.

Education becomes a profitable business for people.

There is no check and balance for educational institutes.

The concept of cramming (rattalization) is followed instead of concept base studies.
