Saharanpur is a city and a Municipal Corporation in the state of Uttar Pradesh in northern India.

It is
the administrative headquarters of Saharanpur District and the Saharanpur Division.
Saharanpur is known for its wood carving cottage industry as well as a thriving market for local
agricultural produce, including basmati rice and mangoes. A variety of industrial enterprises are located
here including textiles, sugar, paper and cigarette factories.

NEHRU MARKET:

As the oldest heritage market in the city, it acts as the wholesale hub for multiple goods and services
required for the city. Currently, vehicles, 2 wheelers, hand-carts, labourers and shoppers are merged
together on streets of the market area leading to an unsafe and chaotic environment.
The site extends from Sri Ram Chowk to Masjid Khwaja wali.

The market mostly comprise garments shops 2 to 3 storey high with 3 floor used as a godown for storing
goods. The whole stretch of 500m long is on the same level with no level difference between the
pavement and road which makes it unsafe for the pedestrians which in turn leads to congestion of traffic
movement. The market lack some basic amenties such as garbage bin , drinking fountain , benches and
washroom.
