Now… let’s take a look at some relieving, hopeful things to

consider about the unemployment issue. Even though the
unemployment rate has gone up, it has just gone up ever
so slightly, and the unemployment rate has still stayed
lower compared to the rate we had this January which was
(9.4%). Right now we have 8.2%.
This is a big silver lining for us.

More hopeful things to consider is that more and more

provinces are unwinding their lockdowns and restrictions.
This means there will be more hirings from businesses that
were closed such as restaurants.
63% of Canadians are already vaccinated with their first
dose. And 71.4% of Ontario is already vaccinated!
This means that the government will be lowering
restrictions and employers will be looking for more
employees. There is a lot of hope for our economy to
recover.

Let’s have a look at what the professionals have to say in
this matter.

Sri Thana bala singam, a senior economist at TD

Economics said that the country lost more jobs than
expected. But, also mentioned that vaccine rollouts may
give employers some confidence in boosting hiring plans.
He also notes, “Without vaccines, businesses will have to
operate below capacity”. This makes vaccines the key to
having the economy booming again.

Jimmy Jean, a vice-president and chief economist at
Desjardins Group, summed up a few factors on the labour
shortages issue. He said, "a lot of people are
uncomfortable" about getting back into the labour market,
with some wondering if it's safe enough. Others are
weighing government benefits, as some programs can
more than compensate for those who make minimum
wage.

Slide 10 - Let’s see what other awful things are happening that is related to this
issue.
With summer ahead, experts say the heat is on
employment scams and criminals are taking full advantage
of the economic conditions. Scammers are targeting
university students who are looking for summer jobs. They
know a lot of individuals are desperately looking for jobs to
pay for schools in the fall.

Let’s see what Karla Laird from Better Business Bureau has
to say on this issue. Thank you for the red flags, Karla.
Another red flag of a fake job posting is when an
employer doesn’t want to interview you and wants you to
work immediately, also be careful with a job posting that
has high pay. Because legit companies will never overpay
an employee. If you think your SIN number or banking
details were compromised, contact service Canada or your
