In Starry Night contoured forms are a means of expression and they are used to convey
emotion. Many feel that van Gogh´s turbulent quest to overcome his illness is reflected in the
dimness of the night sky. The village is painted with dark colors but the brightly lit windows
create a sense of comfort. The famous starry night by Vincent Van Gogh is considered to be one
of his greatest creations to date. The painting depicts a tranquil night on an average evening.
The ambiance in the painting evokes some rather strong emotions within the viewer.
This painting is one of the biggest impact on my life. Because for those who do not know,
Gogh’s painting symbolizes having the freedom to paint a work. How can we compare it to our
lives, I can say that every trial in our lives is just one way to know how strong a person is, and
have a freedom in one’s own life not just to instruct or to judge someone. And every time I see
Gogh’s work, I marvel at him because he pretends to be very imaginative while he is in the
hospital. And the only message of this painting symbolizes his desire to paint and he defended
his right because of his will, he did what he imagined while he was in the hospital and he
thought of building an imaginary village. So what I felt in Gogh’s work was also to have freedom
of one’s own will and not based on other people’s views. So if we love it like we do in our lives,
the net impact will be huge for most because of Gogh’s message, many will relate if they really
understand.
