Thematic map:Symbol + Graduated Color

This thematic map is a combination of two themes, population and density. Population is styled
as circle symbol, density is styled using graduated color.

1. Data preparation

The data of density is polygon named “hubeidata”, the data to style population is point named
center, as shown in Table 1. To style different types of each theme, we classify the value of density
and population with quantile method. Table 2 displays the value breaks. We will use it in following
setting value.

2. Add new styles

The style of this map combines basic template style and custom style. So, to build a new style,
we start with basic template.
 Click Start with Basic.

 Input hubei in Toolbar, choose Hubei.

3. Symbolization

As for these two themes, we will style these corresponding layers in the order density and
population.
(1) Density

① Upload data
 Click Add layer and click Upload.
 Click Select a file button, choose the “hubeidata.zip” files and click Open.
 Click Confirm button.
② Add layer “hubei_density”
 Click Add layer button, find the hubeidata data we have uploaded, click it.

 Click button, rename layer as “hubei_density”, click .


③ Style layer “hubei_density”
 Click Style button, style layer “hubei_density”.
 Click Color, click RGB button, and click Style across data range.
 Click density, input 230, set rgb as 255, 255, 128, and click Done.

 Click Add another stop, input 445, set rgb as 250, 209, 87, and click Done.

 Click Add another stop, input 641, set rgb as 242, 166, 44, and click Done.
 Click Add another stop, input 952, set rgb as 174, 84, 19, and click Done.

 Click Edit of the last stop, set rgb as 170, 0, 0, and click Done.
 Click 1px Stroke, click RGB button, set rgb as 112, 112, 112.

 Click Opacity, set Fill opacity as 0.7.


(2) Population

Steps:
① Upload data
 Click Add layer and click Upload.
 Click Select a file button, choose the “center.zip” files and click Open.
 Click Confirm button.
② Add layer “hubei_population”
 Click Add layer button, find the center data we have uploaded, click it.

 Click button, rename layer as “hubei_population”, click .

③ Style layer “hubei_ population”


 Click Add layer button, find the center data we have uploaded, click it.
 Click Style button, style layer “hubei_ population”.
 Click Select data, click Type and choose Symbol.

 Click Style, style layer “hubei_population”.


 Click Icon, click Images and seclect Icon image named circle-11.

 Click Size and click Style arcoss data range.


 Click population, input 418433 set Icon size as 0.7, and click Done.
 Click Add another stop, input 616730 set Icon size as 1, and click Done.
 Click Add another stop, input 821274 set Icon size as 1.5, and click Done.
 Click Add another stop, input 1233743 set Icon size as 2, and click Done.
 Click Edit of the last stop, set Icon size as 2.5, and click Done.
Thematic map:3D + Graduated Color

This thematic map is also a combination of two themes, population and density. Population is
styled as 3D, it use the height value to express the value of population. Density is styled using
graduated color.

The data for density and population is polygon named “hubeidata”, as shown in Table 1. To
style different types of each theme, we classify the value of density and population with quantile
method. Table 2 displays the value breaks. We will use it in following setting value.

2. Symbolization

(1) Density

Steps:
① Add layer “hubei_popolation_3D”

 Click button, Duplicate “hubei_density” layer, we will get “hubei_density copy” layer.
 Rename “hubei_density copy” layer as “hubei_popolation_3D”.

 
 Click Select data button, click Type and choose Fill extrusion.
 Click Okey.

 
② Style layer “hubei_popolation_3D”
 Click Style button, style layer “hubei_popolation_3D”.
 Click Height, click Use a formula button in Fill height.
 Choose population field.

 Input “*0.1”.
(2) Population

Steps: Set Color for theme of density


 Click Color, click RGB button, and click Style arcoss data range.
 Click density, input 230, rgb as 155, 255, 128, and click Done.
 Click Add another stop, input 445, set rgb as 250, 209, 87 , and click Done.
 Click Add another stop, input 641, set rgb as 242, 166, 44, and click Done.
 Click Add another stop, input 952, set rgb as 174, 84, 19, and click Done.
 Click Edit of the last stop, set rgb as 170, 0, 0, and click Done.
