Short Description of Solar Powered Water Pump, or photovoltaic water pumping
Expected Technology/ (PVP), is a device that uses solar power to supply electricity to
Information: our water pump which will then provide water for irrigation.

Potential Impact of This project is not only beneficial in terms of its reduced cost.
the Technology/ It will be a clean source of energy and will not cause damage
Information: to the environment.

Target Beneficiaries: Farmers, Local Government Units

B. TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
1. Rationale Billions of people around the world live with limited access to
water. In many communities, ground water is extracted through
electric water pumps, which use diesel to fuel their systems.
However, these systems not only require costly, regular servicing
and the purchasing of fuel, they emit carbon dioxide polluting the
atmosphere.

And with our solar powered water pump which uses directory
solar, there is no emission of carbon dioxide and it has zero
maintenance, unlike the gasoline pump which will require
operation and maintenance which is an expensive cost to the
farmers.

It is common to use diesel to power generators

in agricultural operations. While these
systems can provide power where needed1
there are some significant drawbacks,
including:
• Fuel has to be transported to the
generator’s location, which may be quite a
distance over some challenging roads and
landscape.
• Their noise and fumes can disturb
livestock.
• Fuel costs add up, and spills can
contaminate the land.
• Generators require a significant amount of
maintenance and, like all mechanical
systems, they break down and need
replacement parts that are not always
available.
There are also major disadvantages in using
propane or bottled gas to heat water for pen
cleaning or in crop processing applications, or

major disadvantages in using propane or bottled gas to heat water

for crop drying, including transportation to the location where you
need the heat, costs of fuel and safety issues.

For many agricultural needs, the alternative is solar energy.

Modern, well-designed, simple-to-maintain solar systems can
provide the energy that is needed where it is needed, and when it
is needed. These are systems that have been tested and proven
around the world to be cost-effective and reliable, and they are
already raising levels of agricultural productivity worldwide.

In line with this, this project uses solar energy as the primary
source of electricity making it climate friendly. This project
provides cheaper, reliable, and more efficient source of energy for
our irrigation purposes.

1.1. Statement of The study generally focuses on the development and the
the Problem construction of a solar powered water pump system that gives
power to a water pump without using conventional sources of
energy which is polluting.
Specifically, the study aims to:
1. design and assemble an energy generating device which
can harness solar energy produced by the sun and
converting it into useful energy for supply of the water
pump;
2. test and evaluate the technical performance of the system
in terms of the following.
B. TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
a. The water gathered from the efficiency of solar
panel;
b. Required voltage rating;
c. conversion efficiency of the water pump motor;
3. conduct a cost analysis of the system.

1.2. Significance The use of solar powered water pump system that gives power
to a water pump without using conventional sources of energy
which is polluting. Moreover, the developed solar powered water
pump system for automatic irrigation of soil can be used by the
different members of the society.
Farmers. The project will help farmers provide
themselves with easily accessible source of water for soil
irrigation.
Local Government Units. The project will help in
achieving the sustainable development goal of the government
which is to provide clean and renewable energy and as laid down
under the Renewable Energy Act of 2008.

1.3. Time and The operation of the device was assessed through placing it on
Place of the simulation of operation in rice fields in Tanza, Cavite.
Study

1.4. Scope and The study focused only on the development and designing of the
Limitations solar powered water pump system which gathers water from well,
lake, and other water sources to provide more efficient water
source for the soil irrigation. This study only evaluate the
technical performance of the system in terms of water gathered
from the efficiency of solar panel; Required voltage rating;
conversion efficiency of the water pump motor.
2. Expected Output This project will come up to a prototype of a developed solar
powered water pump that is to be ideally implemented to rice
fields.

3. Expected The major parts of the solar powered water pump are solar panel,
Outcomes motor, and hose. Once the solar panel supplies the motor, the
motor will pump up water from the water source(water from
lakes, ground-water, etc).
