Based on the documentary presented to us, namely “Six Degrees Could Change

the World”, 1 degree warmer would make the arctic ice-free for half the year, other areas

will flood due to the melting of ice caps, and hurricanes will start to form. In addition,

scarcity will be a big issue in this time of the world as no crops can be grown at all. For 2

degrees warmer, Greenland glaciers will start disappearing, much more ice has melted

and polar bear struggle to survive. Insect may migrate to new direction due to change in

temperature and there will be much more severe negative impacts in the marine

ecosystem. For 3 degrees warmer, arctic will be totally ice-free all summer, and the drying

out of amazon rainforest may occur; there will be much higher temperature in Europe that

will cause drought as heat wave is would be catastrophe that may result in the declination

of population. For 4 degrees warmer, glaciers disappear and higher sea level will occur.

The earth would be unrecognizable such that there will be drying up of important rivers.

For 5 degrees warmer, there will be inhabitable zones and more drying out of areas,

humans would have a hard time to survive and traditional social system would break

down. Lastly, for 6 degrees warmer, even the earth seems bright blue from afar, marine

waste lands are present, and desserts would rapidly spread due to drying out of earth.

Natural disasters would become just common events wherein great cities will be

abandoned. It is also possible that mass extinction could happen and lives would never

be the same again.

Watching the documentary, even though I am aware of how the earth is constantly

suffering from global warming as well as the climate change, it breaks my heart that the

worst could still possibly happen. And what’s worse is that it is not impossible that we may

witness this scenario, slowly by slowly. I also had negative thoughts that we may not
make it, and the earth would totally disappear but I believe that it is also possible to make

the earth healthy and more habitable again. I think the only problem with this issue is the

lack of knowledge and actions by the people. As a college student, to be able to help in

this natural issue, I will not stop disseminating information regarding the state of the earth

so that more people will be more aware. I also believe that the constant action of limiting

our usage of electricity, water, as well as not wasting these resources, would bring a big

improvement to the earth if acted by many. So, I will still try my best influencing people

by these types of practices as much as possible.
