Module 3 DECIMALS
1) Do you use decimals in your daily lives? YES

2) Where do you commonly use decimals in real life?

Well, I commonly use decimals when buying foods, travel, and checking my weight and height.

3) How are decimals used in everyday life?

We use decimals when we cook something, by measuring the water and other seasonings. And of
course, checking your body temperature or measuring something (e.g. area, sides, length, etc..)

4) Can you think of some examples of how you use decimals in your life?
There are lot of examples in using decimals in our lives especially in dealing with money, buying foods
and travel. It also used for measuring the distance that you’ve travel or calculating your BMI and your
body temperature. Lastly, in proper dividing foods, things, or money.

5) What are decimals used for?

Decimals used to separate the whole number part from the fractional part of a number. Let me give an
example ---> 12.5 where 12 is the whole number part and that .5 is the decimal part or the fractional
part which means 5 tenths. It is also useful in getting the percentage,

6) Write each decimal in standard form, expanded form and word form:

Standard form Expanded form Word form

a) 817 800 + 10 + 7 Eight hundred seventeen
b) 0.817 0.8 + 0.010 + 0.007 Eight hundred seventeen
thousandths
c) 8.17 8 + 0.1 + 0.07 Eight and seventeen
hundredths
7) David took a walk around a park twice. He took 12.4 minutes to walk the first round. In the second
round, he took 3.2 fewer minutes than he did the first round. How long did David take to complete his
walk altogether?

[MY OWN APPROACH: SOLUTION]

Note that:
First round = 12.4 minutes
Second round = 3.2 fewer minutes that he did the first round

Then,
12.4 – 3.2 = second round

12.4 – 3.2 = 9.2 minutes

How long did David take to complete his walk altogether?

Simply, first round + second round = long did David take

12.4 + 9.2 = 21.6

Therefore,
David take 21.6 minutes to complete his walk altogether.
