SECTION A

Question 1

a) Simplify: (𝑥 𝑎 )𝑏−𝑐 × (𝑥 𝑏 )𝑐−𝑎 × (𝑥 𝑐 )𝑎−𝑏 [3]


b) The following observations 40, 42, 45, x – 1, x +1, 51, 54, 62 are arranged
in ascending order. If the median is 49, find the value of ‘x’. Hence find
the mean of the above observations . [3]
c) Show that points A(2,-2), B(8,4), C(5,7) and D(-1,1) are the vertices
of a rectangle. Also find the area of the rectangle [4]

a) A room is 8 m long, 6 m wide and 3 m high.Find its volume and area


of 4 walls. [3]

a) The mean age of 12 boys is 10 years. It was found that the age of one
boy was taken as 14 years in place of 12 years. Find the correct mean. [3]

c) Draw the graph of 4x - 3y + 12 = 0. From the graph find the value of y

a) A rectangular plot 95m long and 50 m broad is to be covered with grass


leaving 4m all around. Find the area of the place to be laid with grass. [3]
b) Find the co-ordinates of the points on y-axis which are at a distance of
4 units from the point (4,3) [3]
c) Solve for x: [4]
(i) 2cos3x-1=0 (ii) 2cos(3𝑥 − 15°)=1

b) A wire is bent to form an equilateral triangle of perimeter 32 cm. If the


same wire is bent to form a circle, find the area enclosed by the wire. [3]
c) The area of cross section of a pipe is 5.4 𝑐𝑚2 and water is pumped out
from it at the rate of 27 km/hr. Find in litres the volume of water
which flows out of the pipe in one minute. [4]

a) The internal measurement of a box are 10 cm × 8 cm × 7 cm. How many
cubes of side 2 cm can be put into the box? [3]

c) Draw the graph of 3𝑥 − 2𝑦 + 4 = 0 and 𝑥 + 𝑦 + 3 = 0 on the same
axes. Write down the coordinates of the point of the intersection of
the two Lines. Also find the area of the triangle formed by the lines and

b) A rectangular sheet of paper is 34cm long and 28cm wide. Find the area
of the largest circle that can be cut from this sheet. [3]
c) The parallel sides of a trapezium are 46cm and 25cm. Its non-parallel sides
are 20cm and 13cm. Find the distance between the parallel sides and area
of the trapezium. [4]
