Data from Appendix A2 is gathered in table below, using the mean of the ranges and choosing gray cast
iron, which would more likely be used as a casing.

At this time, cast iron is cheaper. However, the prices of materials fluctuate quite a bit. For example,
nylon is derived from oil and hence its price varies with the price of oil. Probably a bigger benefit of
replacing cast iron with nylon is the reduction in weight, something the user will likely appreciate. Then
nylon is the better choice by far.
