Lightsaber Construction

Normally a Jedi will construct multiple sabers throughout her career, each more powerful and well-balanced than
those before. To build a new saber, start with a base dfficulty of 0 and add the modifiers for each item and option.
To modify an existing saber, roll the difficulty number listed in the description of the modification. Each
subsequent modification ot an existing saber increase the difficulty by +10. It quickly becomes easier to build a
new saber from scratch than to repeatedly upgrade an existing saber.

A lightsaber contains the following required parts:

1. Power cell – Relatively easy to acquire, a standard power cell lasts for several hundred hours of
continuous use.
2. Handgrip – Constructed by the Jedi or salvaged from other machinery, no two lightsabers have
identical grips.

| a. Constructed – The Jedi built the grip specifically for a lightsaber. - +5/-/2 Days

| b. Salvaged – The Jedi salvaged the grip from some other source. - +10/-/0 Days

3. Activation switch – A lightsaber must have a switch to activate and deactivate the blade. All switches
take 1 Day to install.

| a. Standard - The simplest form is an click On / click Off switch

| b. Safety – The saber has a grip safety built in, if the saber is dropped, it deactivates. - + 5 / Difficult

| c. Lock on – The lightsaber can be locked in the On position, allowing complicated maneuvers without fear of
deactivation. - +5 / Moderate

| d. Force Activated – The lightsaber must be activated with Telekinesis, or some other Force activity. - +5 / Very
Difficult

4. Emitter Matrix – The matrix emits the beam and is responsible for the lightsaber’s characteristic hum.

| a. Standard – The ligthsaber makes a distinct humming sound. - +0 / Moderate / 3 Days

| b. Silent – The emitter is tuned to produce no sound. +5 / Difficult / 4 Days

| c. Switch – The saber may be switched to and from silent mode. - +10 / Very Difficult / 7 Days

5. Recharge Socket – The lightsaber can be recharged or the power cell can be replaced if recharging is
not feasible. Installing the recharge socket takes 1 Day.

| a. Standard – The socket may be charged at any standard power point. - +0 / Moderate

| b. Universal – The saber may be charged from any power source. - +5 / Difficult

6. Lens Assembly – The lens assembly focuses the blade through one or more crystals. Additional crystals
are required for a blade of variable length.

| a. Standard – The blade is fixed between 1 and 1.5 meters. - +5 / Moderate / 2 Days

| b. Short – The blade is fixed between 0.5 and 1 meters. - +10 / Difficult / 2 Days

| c. Long – The blade is fixed between 1.5 and 2.5 meters. - +10 / Very Difficult / 2 Days

| d. Variable – The blade is variable between 0.5 and 2.5 meters. - +20 / Heroic / 7 Days
7. Crystal – The blade is focused through a crystal. The quality and preparation of the crystal determines
the amount of power that may be focused it and damage of the blade. It takes 7 Days to prepare and install a
lightsaber crystal.

| a. 3D+2 – 5 / Easy

| b. 4D – 10 / Moderate

| c. 4D+2 – 15 / Difficult

| d. 5D – 20 / Very Difficult

| e. 5D+2 – 25 / Heroic

8. Power Conduit – The power conduit modulates the energy, tuning it to the proper frequencies for
lightsaber use.

| a. Standard – The lightsaber does normal damage. - +0 / Difficult / 2 Days

| b. Stun – The lightsaber does stun damage. +10 / Very Difficult / 4 Days

| c. Switch – The saber may be switched between stun and lethal damage. - +20 / Heroic / 7 Days

The following optional modifications may also be made to a lightsaber

1. Belt ring – Attach to a belt or harness. No change in difficulty and minimal time to install.
2. Safety – Most sabers have safeties to prevent accidental activation. A safety takes 1 day to install.
3. Double Saber – Two sabers must be constructed, for the purpose of being joined.

| a. Permanent – The sabers are attached together with a special buttplate. - Moderate / 1 Day

| b. Detachable – The two sabers have magna-locks built into their buttplates. They are locked together, and may
be released by a special switch. – Difficult / 1 Day

| c. Single Unit – It is possible to build a single-piece, double bladed saber. Add +20 to the base construction
difficulty and increase the time required by 50%.

4. Security Identifier – The saber may have a cell scanner to prevent unauthorized users from activating
the blade. +5 / Moderate and Moderate Security / 1 Day
5. Water Proofing – The lightsaber may be waterproofed. It will not function underwater, but will resist
damage from moisture. - +5 / Very Difficult / 2 Days
6. Trapped Grip – The lightsaber has some sort of protective device which causes damage to an
unauthorized user. This may be triggered by a Security Identifier or a “dummy” activation switch. - +10 / Very
Difficult / 2 Days

Construction guide.

1. Decide on desired features.

2. Add up difficulty and time required.

| a. The Jedi may not attempt a saber that has a base difficulty of more than twice his maximum possible
Lightsaber Construction roll.

3. Adjust difficulty and time.

| a. Increase difficulty by 1 for each day the Jedi wishes to speed up construction.

| b. Decrease difficulty by 1 for each day the Jedi adds to construction.

4. Increase difficulty by 2 steps if the saber is being constructed for another Jedi.

| a. For this to be successful, the two Jedi must meditate together regularly during the construction process.

5. Roll. If the roll is failed by:

| a. 15 or less - For each 5 the roll is missed by, one of the components is flawed. The Jedi may attempt to rebuild
that component at the modification difficulty. Roll for the damaged component(s).

| b. More than 15 but less than 25, the saber is completely useless and must be rebuilt entirely from scratch. Parts
may be reused.

| c. More then 25, the saber explodes on activation. All parts are destroyed and everyone within 2 meters takes 4D
damage.
