The lightsabers
WHAT IS A LIGHTSABER?
The lightsaber, also known as a lightsaber by those
unfamiliar with it, was a distinctive weapon, the
image of which was inextricably linked to the myth of
the Jedi Order and its polar opposites, the Sith. The
lightsaber also became synonymous with the values
of the Jedi Order to uphold peace and justice across
the galaxy. This perception endured, despite the many
conflicts with the Sith and Dark Jedi that wielded
lightsabers.

The weapon consisted of a blade of pure

plasma emitted from the hilt and suspended
in a force containment field. The field
contained the immense heat of the plasma,
protecting the wearer, and allowed the blade
to retain its shape. The grip was almost
always made by the wearer to suit his
specific needs, preferences and style. The hilt
was also constructed similarly to his master's
lightsaber as a sign of respect. Due to the
weightlessness of the plasma and the strong
gyroscopic effect generated by it, lightsabers
required a great deal of strength and
dexterity to wield, and it was extremely
difficult and dangerous for the untrained to
attempt to use it. However, in the hands of a
Force expert, the lightsaber was a highly
respected and feared weapon. To wield a
lightsaber was to demonstrate incredible skill
and confidence, as well as masterful skill and
attunement to the Force.

The lightsaber, also known as a lazerswoed by those

unfamiliar with it, was a weapon generally used by
Jedi, Sith, and other Force-sensitive ones. The
lightsabers consisted of a plasma blade, powered by a
kyber crystal, which was emitted from a generally
metal grip and could be turned off at will. It was a
weapon that required skill and training and was
greatly improved when used in conjunction with the
Force. Although it was also used by the Sith, the
lightsaber was synonymous with Jedi, and some in the
galaxy believed that only Jedi could use lightsabers.

LIGHTSABER COMBAT;
Lightsaber combat was the preferred fighting
method used by lightsaber wielders, many of the
shapes and styles designed to offset the
gyroscopic effect inherent in lightsabers, and
take advantage of the common Force sensitivity
in most carriers. Different styles of lightsaber
dueling were initially based on ancient sword
fighting techniques. Over the millennia, these
many combat styles were refined into the seven
"classic" forms that serve as the standard, and
in many other fighting methods that require
advanced levels of skill. Lightsaber combat was
difficult to master for several reasons, one of
which was that all the weight a lightsaber had
was on its grip, and the gyroscopic effect caused
resistance to changes in movement or increased
momentum so fast that an untrained carrier
could lose control of the weapon.The lightsaber
combat was divided into seven forms: Form I,

Form II, Form III, Form IV, Form V, Form VI,

and Form VII.

Lightsaber origins:
The first lightsabers arose when the forerunner
Je'daii Order combined advanced technology
outside the world with a forging ritual, learning to
"freeze" a laser beam. The oldest known functional
lightsaber was the First Blade, built on Tython
before the Force Wars by an unknown Master
Je'daii known only as the Master of Arms. With the
formation of the Jedi Order after the Force Wars,
ceremonial weapons were an integral part of their
order. For millennia later, the Jedi continued to use
sharp weapons as swords, as lightsabers had not yet
been refined for regular use.
Lightsabers were used thousands
of years before the Republic era,
on the Great Scourge of Malachor.
They were also used in the Battles
of Rashfond and the Peacekeeping
of Parliock. The proto-saber was
an ancient type of lightsaber
prototype.

Lightsabers assumed a more

prominent role in galactic affairs
as the Clone Wars occurred. The
Jedi, formerly peacekeepers,
became Jedi Generals of the Grand
Army of the Republic, and thus
began using their lightsabers more

frequently than in their

peacekeeping role.
