Chief Executive Officer’s Message
As we embrace the surge of the pandemic once again, I request all to be safe and ensure safety norms at
all times.
I request the accredited laboratories to come forward for obtaining accreditation in critical sectors such as
testing of medical oxygen under chemical discipline, testing of medical equipment, PPE, masks etc. to
ensure that the nation has increased availability of accredited testing infrastructure.
I thank all medical testing laboratories for providing excellent services in conducting RT PCR RNA Virus
molecular testing and supporting the nation with the increased testing capability. Sample collection is a
very critical aspect in providing correct results and request the labs to ensure that the sample collection is
being done as per the requirements. We have decided to include an assessor separately for assessing
sample collection facilities in every assessment (in addition to the existing assessment team for lab's
scope of accreditation) and request the labs to provide their inputs for value addition in the assessment.
We are planning to prepare a model scope in all fields (testing, calibration and medical testing) covering
all disciplines (including all groups) to ensure uniformity in scope of accreditation and invite labs to
participate & contribute to the activity.
All the laboratories are advised to be vigilant that no fraudulent activities (by lab or on behalf of the
laboratories) are being conducted and to adjudge strict measures to prevent such happening. Due care is to
be taken in the reports being issued by the laboratory. Also be cautioned that strict action will be taken, as
per procedure, for any violations of the requirements.
We are planning to organize World Accreditation Day (WAD) 2021 virtually and request your
involvement and participation. This year WAD theme being “Supporting the implementation of
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”.
We are looking forward to providing the best of our services and request your continued support.

National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories
(A Constituent Board of Quality Council of India)
National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL), a Constituent Board of Quality
Council of India is pleased to announce two days conclave on Proficiency Testing Providers (PTP) / Reference
Material Producers (RMP) on 30th – 31st August 2021 (Online).
Benefits of Accreditation
Accreditation provides confidence to the users (such as Laboratories, regulatory bodies, NABL assessors) of PT
schemes / RM / CRMs in such a way that the PT schemes being operated & RM/CRMs being produced are in
accordance with specified technical and management system requirements. Formal recognition of competence of
CABs by an Accreditation body in accordance with international criteria has many advantages:
❖ Potential increase in business due to enhanced customer confidence and satisfaction.
❖ Better control of CABs operations and feedback to CABs as to whether they have sound Quality
❖ Assurance System and are technically competent.
❖ Increase of confidence in PT schemes / RM / CRMs and personnel performing work.
❖ Customers can search and identify the CABs accredited by NABL for their specific requirements from the
Directory of Accredited CABs.
❖ Accredited/ Applicant PTP / RMP, Potential PTP / RMP participants can be accommodated
on the first come first basis.
❖ Users of PT schemes & RM/ CRMs
❖ Quality professionals, Consultants
❖ Manufacturers/ professionals from Industry having in-house laboratory facilities for testing/calibration
❖ People with functional responsibilities in Purchase, Marketing, Design, Manufacturing / Service
provisioning, Quality Assurance, Materials, Maintenance, HRD, Administration, Finance etc.
Certificate
NABL will issue participation certificate upon attending this two-day Conclave (Online).

ACCREDITATION OF BIOBANKS (ISO 20387)
Biobanks are the rich collections of biological material and associated data (BMaD), specially developed
as resource for research. Hence, Biobank is defined as an entity that performs the process of
acquisitioning and storing, collection, preparation, testing, analysing and distributing defined biological
material as well as related information and data.
These biorepositories are needed in multiple sectors, including pharma, academia, animal breeding,
disease pathologies and population-based studies in the field of epigenetics, preventive medical programs,
rare diseases and epidemiology.
ISO 20387:2018 Biotechnology — Biobanking — General requirements for biobanking an international
standard specifies general requirements for the competence, impartiality and consistent operation of
biobanks including quality control requirements to ensure biological material and data collections of
appropriate quality.
Biobanking is an untapped treasure and hub of opportunity. Accreditation of biobanks which enhances
Confidence building in Biobanking and simultaneously synchronize data exchange among biobanks,
researchers and other authorised parties.
This Standard is applicable to the organization (existing or newly established Biobanks) performing bio-
banking activities on Biological material and associated data from multicellular organisms eg, human,
animal, fungus, plant and microorganism used for research and development.
NABL is developing a new accreditation scheme for Biobanks based on ISO 20387, an International
standard as increased demand arising from developments in the area of genomics, metagenomics,
proteomics, personalized medicine, disease biology, bioenergy, environmental remediation and allied
fields.
Looking forward for valuable inputs and comments including participation of interested experts in
development of the program

Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) like, BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP, AR, SSB & NSG are using GeM portal for their
procurement. The product information uploaded by vendor on GeM portal must be accompanied by a test report
issued by NABL accredited laboratories.
There is an immediate requirement of accredited testing laboratories which can perform all the test parameters of
each product specified by CAPFs
Please go through the Quality Requirements (QRs) to check the feasibility for enhancing scope of NABL accreditation
for all parameters associated with each product.
