Jeepneys are a particularly Filipino means of public transportation that emerged following World War II,
which severely destroyed the country's infrastructure. As a result of the conflict, American troops left
behind Willy Jeeps, the ubiquitous four-person green jeeps of war movie fame, because it was too
expensive to bring them back to the United States. In order to suit their transit requirements, the locals
began retrofitting them. Despite the fact that they were originally intended to be a temporary solution,
they have now established themselves as a national standard. The majority of the original jeepneys are
no longer in service, and the jeepneys that are currently on the road were constructed by local
automobile manufacturers in the years that followed.

Most people associate Jeepneys with ostentatious bodywork that incorporates pop-culture iconography,
Catholic symbolism, and Americana art, such as flags, monuments, and other emblems of the United
States. It's a weird concoction that bears witness to the country's long history of colonialism. These
traveling canvases can be found on Aurora Boulevard, a prominent highway in Quezon City where
hundreds of jeepneys pass through at all hours of the day and night. It was here that we first learned
about Giele Nicola, one of the most renowned jeepney artists in the city.

Jeepneys are decorated in a variety of ways, and the vehicles Nicola works on, as well as many others in
the Aurora area, have modifications such as designs cut into the mud flaps, decorative metal wire
around the brake lights, and LED lights that shine from the undercarriage and within the cab. The rear
wheels are lifted, while the front axle is lowered, allowing for the display of ludicrous hood ornaments
and overabundance of needless antennas. Many vehicles are painted in a glowing manner on the inside
of the wheel wells as well as the outside.
