4 1 Service Patch Installation (VC25C through VC25F)

1.1 Scope
The ACUSON S Family ultrasound systems periodically require software patch updates to
ensure optimal performance. This document provides software patch installation instruc‐
tions.

1.1.1 Supported Versions

1.1.4 Time Required

30 minutes to perform the SW upgrade; additional 30 minutes to perform the FPD Opti‐
mization procedure, if required.

1.1.5 System Preparation

1.1.5.1 Prior to arriving at the site:

To save time, Siemens recommends calling the customer and asking them to archive the
patient database, preferably to a workstation, prior to the site visit. In addition, obsolete
patient records should be deleted.

1.2 Verification and Installation

The Verification and Installation instructions include the following sections:
n Verify the current software revisions
n Install the software patch
n Administration

1.2.1 Verify the Current Software Revisions

1. Power on the system.
- Plug the power cable into a power receptacle rated for the system.
- Switch the Main circuit breaker to the On position.
- Press the Control Panel Power button, and boot the system to Imaging Mode.
2. Press the System Config (F4) key, and then click Service.
3. Verify the Product Version (Software Version) under System Information.

a) If the desired software version is installed, no further action is required.

1.2.2 Install the Software Patch

1.2.2.1 Software Patch Installation Instructions

The installation of the software takes approximately 20 minutes.

 The network cable does not need to be removed because a network connection does not
affect the software patch installation.

1. Insert the update disk into the CD-R/DVD tray.

2. Press the System Config (F4) key, and then click Service.
3. Click Install Software.
The system displays a dialog box with the following message: This is a diag-
nostic\firmware installation. The software will close and then
the diagnostics will be installed. You must archive and back-up
data before doing the install. Do you want to continue install?

 This update procedure should not change or delete system presets or patient studies. It
is still recommended to perform a data backup.

4. Click OK. The system will reboot to the software update disk.
5. During system restart, a dialog box will pop up with the following message: Soft-
ware version <current version> has been verified. Press OK to
start the update to <Update Version>. Click OK to start the upgrade in‐
stall process.

If the current software version cannot be upgraded, a dialog box will pop up with follow‐


ing message: Software version <Current Version> is not supported
for update to <Update Version>. If this case happens, force the system to pow‐
er down by pressing and holding the power button.

IMPORTANT! Once the SW patch installation has started, do NOT press any key or shut

 down the system.

The whole SW patch installation process will take about 20 minutes.

6. The system will load the software patch and the system will reboot or shutdown when
completed.
7. Press the Power Button to restart the system, if the system shuts down.

1.2.2.2 Verify Software is Updated to Correct Version

Verify that the software version was updated.

1. Press the System Config (F4) key, and then click Service.
2. Verify the Product Version (Software Version) under System Information.

1.2.3 Administration

1.2.3.1 Final Work Steps

1. Eject the software patch installation disk.

2. Update the system documentation. Update the revision level, the user documents (if
applicable) and the technical documentation.
3. Save the new software disk together with the system software disk.
4. MANDATORY: Always update the install database to show the newly installed software
version.
