The leaders instead chose to violate the UN charter by intervening in the sovereignty of other countries
and violating it territorial integrity, "said Nara when reading the Indonesian government's official
response at the UN General Assembly, Wednesday (28/9/2016) yesterday.Nara said these countries had
their own agendas and used the UN General Assembly forum to divert attention of their domestic
political and social problems. The following is the strong protest of the Indonesian government over
accusations from six Pacific island nations at the UN General Assembly: Mr. President Indonesia wants
to use our right of reply to statements made by the Prime Minister of the islands of Salomon and
Vanuatu, who were also voiced by Nauru, Marshall Islands, Tuvalu and Tonga regarding the problem of
Papua, the province of Indonesia. Indonesia is shocked to hear in this pulpit, this very important pulpit
where leaders meet here to discuss the initial implementation of the SDGs, the transformation of our
collective action and other global challenges such as climate change, where the Pacific countries will be
most affected, the leaders are instead choose to violate the UN charter by intervening in the sovereignty
of other countries and violating territorial integrity. We totally reject the constant insinuation in their
statements. That clearly reflected their incomprehension on the history, current situation and
progressive developments in Indonesia including in the provinces of Papua and West Papua as well as
hostile and rhetorical political maneuvers.Their political statement was designed to support separatist
groups in the provinces who are so passionately involved in disrupting public order and carrying out
armed terrorist attacks on society civilians and security forces. It is clear that the statements made by
these countries truly violate the objectives and purposes of the UN charter and violate the principles of
international law regarding friendly relations between countries and the sovereignty and territorial
integrity of a country. We repeat. This has violated the sovereignty and territorial integrity of a country.
It is very regrettable and dangerous for countries to abuse the UN, including this general session. These
countries are already using the General Assembly to advance their domestic agendas and for some
countries to divert attention from political and social problems in their countries. These countries also
use misinformation and fabrication as the basis for their statements. The attitude of these states
belittled the UN charter and jeopardized the credibility of this Assembly. Mr. President Indonesia's
commitment to human rights is unquestionable. Indonesia is a member of the UN Human Rights
Council. Indonesia has been a member of the council for three terms and is currently a member for the
fourth time.Indonesia is the initiator of the ASEAN intergovernmental human rights commission and the
independent commission of the OIC. Indonesia has ratified eight of the nine main human rights
instruments. Everything is integrated into our national legal system compared to just four Solomon
island nations and five countries by Vanuatu.Indonesia is among the few that have a national human
rights action plan and is currently the fourth generation of such plans from 2015-2019. Indonesia has
had a strong and active KOMNAS HAM since 1993 an active civil society and free media.Indonesia is also
a mature democracy in its functions. With a democracy that is so dynamic along with a very high
commitment to promotion and protection of human rights at all levels. It is almost impossible for human
rights violations to occur without being noticed and examined.Mr. President We reaffirm that there are
domestic mechanisms at the national level in Indonesia as well as at the provincial level in Papua and
West Papua. On our part Indonesia will continue to put an appropriate focus on development in the
Provinces of Papua and West Papua and in the best interests of all.In conclusion, Mr. President, there is
a saying in the Asia Pacific region. When someone points their index finger to another, their fingers
automatically point to their facealone.
