GRE Exam is offered in Computer based 

and paper based format. Only few test


centers offer Paper based GRE Exam.  Following is the syllabus for computer based
GRE test format.

Analytical Writing – You will have to complete 2 essays. Total Score for 2 essay is
6.0
1 Issue Essay  – 45 Minutes
1 Argument Essay – 30 Minutes
Verbal Reasoning – 30 Questions, 30 minutes and Max Score 800. GRE Verbal
includes following question types.
Analogies
Antonyms
Sentence Completion
Reading Comprehension
Quantitative Reasoning – 28 questions, 45 minutes. Includes following question
types
Quantitative Comparison
Problem Solving
Data Interpretation
Unscored Section – Test will include one unscored Verbal or quantitative section.
SO, you will take 2 Verbal or 2 GRE quantitative section, but one will be scored.
Research Section – There will be new question types that ETS plans to use in future
testing. It will vary between test takers.
GRE Exam New Syllabus Fall 2011. If you are going to take GRE exam after
Summer of 2011, you have to take GRE exam in new syllabus.

GRE Exam pattern for Computer based Test (CBT).

Analytical Writing – 2 essays. Total Score for 2 essay is 6.0


Issue Essay  – 45 Minutes
Argument Essay – 30 Minutes

Verbal – 30 Questions and maximum 30 minutes.  Score can be from 200 to 800.
Score above 400 is good, but high verbal requires good practice. GRE Verbal
includes following question types.
Analogies
Antonyms
Sentence Completion
Reading Comprehension

Quantitative Reasoning – 28 questions, 45 minutes. Score range 200 to 800. It’s easy
to score above 700, but perfect 800 requires practice.
Quantitative Comparison
Problem Solving
Data Interpretation

Unscored Section – Test will include one unscored Verbal or quantitative section.
GRE exam pattern will change from 2011. 

MAJOR CHANGES TO GRE EXAM FROM 2011

Education Testing Services (ETS) announced major changes to GRE Exam from
2011. The New GRE in 2011 is expected to be out from Fall 2011. Here is a quick
summary of changes that will be made to GRE Exam in 2011.

Changes to GRE in 2011:

All 3 sections in GRE will be revised (verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning and
analytical writing)
Grading scale from 130 to 170
No More  Antonyms and Analogies in GRE Verbal  section (Good News)
Antonyms and Analogies will be replaced with reading-comprehension
Skip back and forth between exam questions. ( No more computer adaptability for
every question)
Calculators are allowed in GRE 2011
