THEATRE ARTISTS OF MADHYA PRADESH

 Ashok Kumar
 He was born in Khandwa in 1911. He started his career as an
assistant cameraperson with Hindi film 'Navya'. He was
lovingly called Dada Muni.
 He became a celebrated film and theatre artist awarded with
Dada Saheb Phalke Award, Film Fare Award and Sangeet
Natak Academy award. Ashok Kumar

 Gajanan Mahadev
 Born in 1917, emerged as one of the most prominent Hindi poets,
fiction writer and theatre artist. He dircted more than 50 dramas and
served as Assistant Director of Drama at Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal.

 Baba Dike
 Born in 1919 at Neemuch, Gangadhar Mahadev Dike had been
associated with theatre from his very childhood.
 In 1944, Baba Dike, Vishnu Chinchalkar and Rahul Barpute together
founded the ‘Natya Bharatiya Sansthan’. His first drama was Akhand
Tandav.
 He was also a freedom fighter and actively participated in Quit India
Movement.

 Habib Tanveer
 Born in 1923, Raipur, Chhattisgarh. In the beginning of
his career, Tanveer wrote poems under the pen name of
'Takhalluj'.
 He also worked with All India Radio as producer. Later,
he worked as actor with Indian Peoples' Theatre

 He also took training in acting from Royal Academy of Dramatic


Arts, England. Well known plays include Mitti ki gadi (Mudra
Rakshas), Gaon ka nav sasural mor nav damad, Agra Bazaar, Shatranj
ki Mohre, Charandas Chor, Ponga Pandit, etc.
 He also served as Director of theatre wing of Bharat Bhavan. He was
honored with various awards and prizes including Padmashri and
Shikhar Samman.

 Banshi Kaul
 He was born in Srinagar in 1949 and made his career in theatre. He
staged various plays in India and abroad.
 He served as member Sangeet Natak Academy, Professor National
School of Drama and Director Sriram Centre for Art and Culture.
 He had done especial research on folk theatre and was a national
awardee.

 Annu Kapoor
 Alumni of National School of Drama, Kapoor
gained fame from play ‘Ruka Hua Faisla”. He
also worked with Doordarshan and emerged as
a popular artist.

 Mukesh Tiwari
 From Sagar district, Tiwari is an important artist in
Hindi Cinema.

 Rajiv Verma
 Famous artist from MP who started his career in
theatre from the very childhood, participating in
village ramlilas. He rose to fame with TV serial Mukesh Tiwari
'Chunauti'.

 Jadoogar Anand
 He is an internationally acclaimed Magician who won various awards
including Brussels Award and National Award.
 Jaya Bachchan
 She began her career in films with film Guddi and achieved new
heights of success in film industry.
 She worked in more than 30 films and won several awards including
Film Fare award and Padmashri.

 Vibha Mishra
 An alumnus of National School of Drama, she is a popular name in
MP's theatre world. She has worked a senior artist at Bharatiya
Bhavan Bhopal.

 Subandhu Dubey
 He is a renowned theatre artist from MP who has won several national
and international awards.

 Ashutosh Rana
 Born in Gadarwara, Narsinghpur, he quickly gained popularity in
Hindi cinema with his talent and efforts.

 B.V. Karanth
 Served as Director of Drama at Bharat Bhavan.

 Dheerendra Kumar
 An alumnus of National School of Drama, Kumar acted and directed
several TV serials and dramas.
