Education is said to be concerned with the development of every person’s intellectual, emotional,

social, physical, artistic, creative and spiritual potentials. It seeks to engage students in the

teaching/learning process and encourage personal and collective responsibility. It is the process

of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and habits.

Purpose of education, (2012). Put it, a social process of living and not a preparation for future

living.

The General Purpose Of Education

The general purposes of education include but are not limited to the following:

 Realization of one’s potential: the aim of education should be the realization of one’s full

potential and the ability to use those skills for the greater good. It is about giving students

the skills they need to succeed in new world, and helping them grow the confidence to

practice those skills.

 School should teach students how to be problem solvers by helping them learn how to

think rather than what to think, and to improve our minds, so as to enable them to think

themselves.

 School should help students learn to live and to work cooperatively with others. It is

empowering people to succeed in the economy, participate in culture and leave school

prepared for adult life. Nick,G. (2015). Education is the engine of our economy, it is the

foundation of our culture and it’s an essential preparation for adult life.

Purpose Of Education In Equatorial Guinea

There have been major strides with education in Equatorial Guinea over the past ten

years, although there is gradual improvement recently. It started with the first president,

Macias Nguema (1968-1979), where intellectuals were condemned at all public events. A

big majority of educated people, teachers and professors, were confronted with jail, death

or exile. Officially, the country does not have a grant system for young people to study

after leaving the secondary education system. Many of them are roaming about the

country without a purpose. Notwithstanding, education has recently gained little

improvement in the past few years as people started establishing private English schools

rather than the normal Spanish system. Obal partnership, (2010). The major purposes of

education are:

 To have the skills needed to build upon to accomplish whatever task or job is assigned in

future. This is something needed everywhere from the workplace to avoiding purchasing

every product advertised.

 To be a critical thinker: children need to learn how to analyze the information given to

them so as adults they can decide what is true.

 To be a moral person: being moral person is to know what society accepts as correct

behavior.

 To be able to troubleshoot or strategize: the ability to logically attack a problem to come

up with viable solution is what education seeks for.
