Chemical Roadmap Update – Primark Suppliers

In February 2014, Primark committed to eliminating hazardous chemicals from our supply
chain across all product categories. We are rolling out a number of elements to accelerate
delivery of this commitment.

One key element will be the release of our 2017 Restricted Substances List, which is a
significant change from our 2015 Restricted Substances List. The changes are so significant,
that it is important that all suppliers study the document fully to understand the implications
for your business and take appropriate action to support Primark.

Most importantly, you need to be aware that our product testing manuals have been updated,
to include the priority chemical groups of APEO’s and PFC’s, to allow us to routinely capture
and monitor testing data. Failures are likely to lead to product rejections and repair or
replacement at your own cost.

The most critical change in this new 2017 Restricted Substances List is that we will introduce a
second set of limits for chemicals. In addition to the product limits in our 2015 Restricted
Substances List, we will introduce limits for the same chemicals, on the INGREDIENTS
(Manufacturing Restricted Substances List) = MRSL Limits. Ingredients are the chemicals which
go into making our products.

We also intend to develop better transparency around our extended supply chain, to the level
of the fabric processing mills where the majority of chemicals are used. As these are your
suppliers, we require you to take responsibility for implementing this process into your own
supply chain.
To support you, we have developed a Chemical Management Toolkit, which consists of:

- A standardised format for chemical users to record important chemical storage

and use information - Chemical Inventory List
- A user guide on how to complete the Chemical Inventory List
- A checklist for you to assess the quality of data captured by your own suppliers
- A series of Key Performance Indicators to allow us to monitor performance and
drive progress

Training will be provided during a 1 day session and suppliers will receive further information
on these sessions in due course from Primark’s in-country Environmental Managers. We
expect you to invite your key mill suppliers (the users of chemicals) and they should delegate a
person who is currently involved in chemical management and who will be responsible for
submitting their completed Chemical Inventory List to you in future.

This programme will be managed by Primark’s Environmental Sustainability Team, with

support from the QA Team and the network of test labs who already support Primark at a
country level. Please contact the Environmental Sustainability Team if you have any questions:
